Has anyone else experienced problems connecting to the ecu when using a Serial to USB adapter? I have made up a lead, installed the software and connected up, but the software does not recognise the connection? Do i need an older laptop with a serial socket or is there a way around it?

I tried three laptops before I got connected. The third one was running Windows 98 with a good old 9 pin serial port, the others XP Pro with a USB to serial converter.

I tried again last night doing all of he tricks found on here, however couldnt get to the COMM port dettings as described, but then im not very techy.
I think i will find and older laptop or set up a desktop in the garage and run windows 98. I used win 98 and a serial cable when logging my old GTO with good success so why change!

go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager>ports/com port

click on the + beside ports to expand the tree, then right mouse click on the com port/properties/click on the "port settings" tab > advanced, and select your com port number as 1 or 2, either of which are the "traditional" style com ports which the software will be looking for. the irqs and interrupts will be set properly for the com port if you use this method.

Let me know if your problem persists!
