Has anyone else experienced problems connecting to the ecu when using a Serial to USB adapter? I have made up a lead, installed the software and connected up, but the software does not recognise the connection? Do i need an older laptop with a serial socket or is there a way around it?

Sure someone will answer you soon, but do a search. Has been covered several times. Believe to do with com ports or some other kompooter thingy.

I've got an old Laptop with a serial port, so I'm not an expert in USB - serial connections, so I'm going by memory here from what I remember from other posts......

You need to ensure that the Laptop sees the USB/Serial connection on Comm1.
The lead for a normal serial port is a standard D9 Male-D9 Female lead, so your USB lead should be pinned/connected in the same way.
Even when using the standard serial lead, when you first connect to the ECU you often get amessage saying the Diags program is unable to open Comm1, the way round it is to go into Device manager, select the Comm1 port, then uninstall the Driver, Device manager then automatically reinstalls a driver and hey presto it now recognises comm1 - so try that. Hope this helps, sure someone will be along soon with the right answer smile

PS Remember the immobiliser on the car must be OFF - ie if you hit the start button the car will start.

Thanks. I just did an advanced search and found loads of info, as you said. Now have a checklist of things to try.
Thanks again
