Hi Everyone I am a dreamer and have dreamt of owning a Cerbera for a long time? NOW I GOING TO TAKE THE PLUNGE
So my question is Which one?
A V8 4.2 or 4.5
or a speed six
my budget (might - I think) get me to a '98 - 2000 version of either
but which one????? can anyone please help me with valuable advice (I am a novice so tell it to me straight)

Can I use a Cerb Daily? I do about 35 miles round trip to work each day
What to look for when buying one of "Rodney and Delboy"
Is there issues with Clearance on Irish Roads?????
Where is the best place to buy, What are the usual problems? what is the average running cost!!!

And where is the spare wheel????? ( I even look under the what you may call it, just behind the thing a Jig and no sign of a spare?????

Thank you all for your advice in advance
James

Hi James

Cerbs don't have a spare wheel as standard, alloy or space saver. It's all about keeping the weight down. Most owners usually carry a couple of tins of tyre sealant spray.

Simon

I was in your shoes for about 18 months until I finally took the plunge last month.

The 'search' option on here should tell you just about all you need to know.

It's just I think one tin of that foam stuff would struggle to seal and inflate a 255/35ZR18. Probably just me being over cautious.

Only one??? They are big tyres!
I got three of the large cans just in case, and a double barrel foot pump Ha-Ha!

Go for the 4.5, it's rarer and less stressed than the 4.2 unless its been re-mapped and then its MUCH faster, apparently.

Only had mine a month and already have wires hanging out the dash board!
Don't you just love the quality of components suppliers?

Ive never used the stuff, just kept it in the boot in case. Best I get myself some more then as hadnt thought about it not being enough!

Not sure that it can be described as rarer or less stressed?

I was just surmising after reading a lot of postings on here before getting my 4.5.

4.2 seems to top out at 360BHP, unless you get really serious??
But a "standard" 4.5 will often be about 340BHP until breathed on where it will pass 400BHP.
So running detuned compared to a standard 4.2 must be less stressed?

Byt he way is there a "400+ club" listing??

I had been looking for a long time and to be honest only found a few 4.5 for sale, compared to a lot of 4.2!
Perhaps just me, but others have said it is rarer.

Which I suppose would point us to the TVRCC to get the actual build numbers and standard tuning figures??

Please correct me, as I'm still a newbie.

I just signed up here and was just about to ask the same question. I've always been a Jag-nut. But I figured it was time for me to buy something light and sporty, and the Cerbera seems to fit all my criterias. So the same question crossed my mind - 4.2 or 4.5 litre? The 4.5 is more rare and that extra displacement might come in handy in case I wish more performance... without paying zillions? At the same time the 4.5 cars are a bit more expensive and there are some 4.2s in superb condition for sale at a reasonable price.

Guess I'll have a look at that search funcion.. smile

James,

Good move registering and posting on here.

It's by far the best source of info on the Cerbs (even better than ringing me).

Have a look through my posts or alinton's posts (via our profiles - click on our user-names and go from there) as we are both in Ireland and do use the cars regularly.

This will give you an idea of what work we've done to our cars and also will show that, even though we are a long way from a dealer or indie, we can still keep out cars running.

Oh, and don't forget, the offer of stopping off and having a look at my car still stands.
