This will probably sound a stupid question, but is the gearknob a standard screw on, right-hand thread affair. Over the last few months mine has gradually rotated anti-clockwise so that the best view of the writing is from outside of the car looking in from the drivers side and I have tried to turn it without much effect and don't want to damage it if it's got a reverse thread or something odd? I assume the short tapered sleeve affair below the round knob is a form of locking ring?
Cheers

To undo you unscrew anticlockwise, and yes the ring underneath is a locking ring. I had the same problem as you when I bought my car. It took a hefty grip to undo but dont worry with a bit of force. Trick is to place gear know in the correct position then screw the collar upto the knob. Now wind the gear knob out a fraction, bring the collar back up and tighten up the knob. Might have to play around till the knob tightens and sits straight. Have fun with ya knob!
