Novice Track Evening - Brands Hatch
Discussion
My kid bro has just bought himself an Astra VXR (flippin 'eck its quick
) and Im trying to talk him into the novice session at Brands on 19th May, which will be his first time on track. Although not strictly a 'novice' (apart from the way I actually drive the thing
) Im hoping to go along and give him a benchmark.
Anyone else fancy a few 'non-serious' laps round Brands in a couple of weeks?

I would normally jump at the chance, but there are quite a few track days/evenings available, isn't there another that isn't targeted as a Novice evening?
My reasons being a) It can be quite daunting to a genuine novice to see a load of TVR 'nutters' turning up and b) I was very nearly taken off by a novice on my last Brands track evening because he was too busy showing off to his mates at the back of paddock to notice me on full chat coming past him!
Oh, and now my car is fully stickered up they're not gonna believe I'm a novice.
Although i do drive like one occasionally.

I drove one of these a year/18 months ago. Is this the one with the shocking torque steer to the left and the nasty understeer then suddenly snap to oversteer. Quite disturbing when taking a familiar roundabout 3rd exit at speed.

I would be up for this,is there a noise limit ?
Yes there is in this case 98dB, they're very fare at Brands, but the limits on evening track events tend to be more tightly policed.Residents like quiet evenings, while a lot of people work during the day. You get the idea.
Just been onto the Brands web site and had a look at the page:
THE NOISE LIMIT ON THIS EVENT IS 98dB(A). Typically most mass production, standard, road cars will come in under this limit but please contact us to arrange a noise test if you are unsure whether your car is suitable.
THIS EVENT IS STRICTLY FOR NOVICES ONLY. Experienced drivers who book into this event will not be allowed to participate and will not be offered a refund. For the avoidance of doubt - typically we categorise a novice as someone who has attended less than three trackdays before. However, contact us if you are unsure as to whether or not you fall into this category.
That looks new. 3 trackdays does sound like a good cut off to me.

98 is a new limit no, sure it was 102 last time as I was just legitimate. Even the track day regs page still says 102 for evening sessions.

They are fair though it has to be said, with warnings to take it easy for those that were over, don't think anyone was turned away point blank and we had some loud cars out.
