So it was a lovely sunny day up here in Glasgow. Just made the brave decision to take the cerb, wife and kids a blast up to the scottish motorfair at knockhill. Starts her up, god she sounds fantastic when you haven't heard her for a week, and cant engage gear, just crunches !!!
Switched off engine and can engage gear no problem, but cant select when engine running. So end up taking wifes galaxy ! Whats worse there was no queue to get there, and to top it all off, if i had turned up with cerb could have taken her round track as part of a supercar parade !!! How pissed off am i ?
Any suggestions on clutch ?
Thanks in advance.
SVM. ps. Thanks to all at knockhill for a great show.

Yep you have a problem with your clutch master or slave cylinder. (Cheap fix)

I had the same problem, it was my clutch master cylinder, check that it is full first, if it isn't then bleed the system as there could be air in there, the master cylinder is cheap and easy to replace, if it is not that the it gets a bit expensive if it is the slave cylinder or the clutch fingers.
Good luck.

If the clutch pedal still feels normal i.e pressure still there, but you can't engage gears with the engine running. More than likely its the clutch fingers that have failed on the diaphragm plate. I just had to change the clutch on mine for the same reasons. I could still engage gears but only just enough to get it over the pit. About a quarter of the fingers had broken off.

I had the same symptoms as the OP recently & it turned out to be the slave cylinder.

Just to clarify, when your clutch slave went, you still had a firm pedal and no loss of fluid?

Sorry too lazy to open the fluid bottle , as was the AA man.... Pedal went a bit light.... Couldn't get a gear with engine running, but changed gear perfectly with engine off.

From memory, when the fingers went on the other car , I couldn't get a gear with engine on/off

Where is the clutch fluid reservoir ? I presume there is a seperate one to the brake fluid ?
What fluid do you need to top up with, will check levels before getting a quote for fingers.Whats the average price to have fingers replaced. Thanks. SVM.

The clutch fluid pot is in the wing near the brake fluid pot, you have to take the cover off which fits under the windscreen, just two screws to take out and for these you will need a 4mm allen key, the pot is then under the black cover in the wing.
