Loose earth cable

Refurbishing the headlights at the moment and after removing the rectangular panel in front of the off side wheel I discovered a large diameter (10mm or so) black cable coming out of the loom with a large bolt down connector on the end. The problem is it's not connected to anything. Looks like a high current earth cable.
Car is starting and running fine, I'm just worried that other areas of the loom are taking a disproportionately high current. I can take a picture if it will help.
