hi all,
after picking my cerb up last tuesday ive had lots of problems. finally got it on the road at the weekend and loved every minute but now im getting the MIL light flashing at me as im driving. it lights up as normal before starting then goes out once started but when i start driving it starts flashing at me every few seconds.
do you think this could have anything to do with the big fuse?
i say this because ive noticed when im stationary and at steady idle my rev needle bounces erratically but as soon as i blip the throttle it stops.
do you think this could be related? big fuse maybe?
cheers

The only way to find out for sure is to hook up a computer and look at the fault log in the diagnostic software.
My guess with the eratic idle (having just solved a similar problem on mine) would be throttle pots or lambda sensors. The simplest way to tell is with the software.

its not actually idling erratically it idles smooth just nder 1k its just the needle that bounces around until i blip the throttle. thats why i thought it might be the 100amp fuse
anyone know where's the best place to get the software and cable?
i have a 4.2 1996
cheers

MIL light shouldn't be on if big fuse problem.

I've blown mine twice and MIL never been on. Rev counter has bounced eraticaally though before hand. Sounds like you may have other issues or just a dodgy conenction.

Hope you get to the bottonm if it.

Cheers

Water temp sender for the ECU is my guess. When the MIL light is on, do the cooling fans come on?

My MIL light came on when my big fuse went.

cooling fans still work fine. when it reaches about 95 the temp drops to 90 and sits there.
MIL light only comes on when im moving so could be a dodgy connection as it flickers and doesn't just stay on.

Need the laptop. Could be fluctuating ECU voltage. Alternatively cleaning coil packs and connectors may help, cured my MIL issues, but would normally be associated with misfire.

Don't take my word for it though, still not put the laptop on mine after 15 months of ownership. Other cars have taken all my time up.

Good luck

Ditto comments about the laptop.

On my first cerb I had this, the MIL flickering and beeping like morse code.
Turned out to be a lambda sensor.

Good luck.

Water in the ECU connector? Unplug the ECU from the loom and have a good look for damp in the black connector.

My MIL light came on when my Big fuse went and the car ran a bit rough before conking out. thought it was the battery at first seeing as it was flat when tested, put in new one and all was well for a few miles then the light came on again then went off etc untill it died again. By this time i thought it was the alternator. Took it in to get sorted, 50p later every thing was ok and has been since. Got a spare battery now though.

My bet is a dodgy lambda sensor. Probably popping up to 1.87'ish every now and then and that's when the MIL light comes on.

Hook it up to the lap top, it's the only way...

At a guess: the man isn't running any cats and doesn't care about passing MOT's laugh
They are ignored above 4000rpm anyway.
