Before I have a go has anyone any tips on reconnecting this bugger. ie is the cable long enough to get hold of and pull through. Had a quick try yesterday and ended up with a few sparks yikes Should have put some insulation tape around my pliers

common problem. Try taking the ashtray out to get better access. You may find you have blown the fuse. You will know if the radio has packed in. cable comes out about 2 to 3 inches.

All very fiddly with fat fingers!

Not all have ash trays, it's a bugger then, best taking the fuse out first.

Be very carfull you don't pull on the wires for the key switch!

It will fall apart and the innerds will drop out!

Mine did! Shi*e component!

Thanks Steve - I'll watch for that. My indicator gaitor keeps comin off too so that needs gluing. It is 11 years old though. :-)

Open the boot first before working on any electrics. Then you won't get locked out when the fuse goes.

It's also worth while making or getting a larger washer around the lighter socket to stop it getting pushed through the bulkhead. I used a chrome plastic washer from a shower fitting and filed it down.
You can just make it out here

Sorry to intrude but whats behind the panel where the immobiliser fob is located.
Is it possible to screw into this panel, not too deeply -about one inch? (Need to know as i'm thinking of fixing a bracket to support the SatNav onto it.)
Thanks

If you mean the red carped panel where the black immobiliser disarm socket is, then you have an inch or so of space then the forward bulkhead. However this space is full of various wiring harnesses and the hard fule lines pass throught the bulkhead near ther so I would advise extreme caution if you drill or screw into it. Short self tapping screws will probably be alright - just be carefull.

I dont know if this helps
but that panel sits right up to the bulkhead in the centre. Just where you can see a blue connector block on the left of the picture.
