Quick question for Emerald K3 owners
Discussion
I'm just trying to set up the map switching on my K3, but don't seem to be able to upload settings into the ECU.
I've made a cable as per the instructions and have now tried two different computers, one with built-in serial, but don't seem to be getting a result.
The software will show live data from the ECU, but doesn't want to download the map, or allow me to make changes.
I try and upload a change to the ECU and it just says "waiting". Is this something that is normally instant, or does it take a while?
It's starting to annoy me, as the ECU is currently defaulting to my economy map, which is about 50bhp down on full power. Most embarrasing when I played with a Gallardo yesterday...

you shouldn't have an economy map which is 50hp down on full power, that's silly! even if you have a map which is predominantly weak in the main cruising range it should still be mapped properly under high load conditions to protect your engine, so I don't understand that at all. Are you saying your economy map is also mapped to run weak under load and it's costing you 50hp?
as for the uploading new data bit : are you using the emerald ecu lead? was the ecu password protected last time it was mapped? I struggled the other day mapping a car on the laptop ive used to map emeralds on for years, it just wouldn't communicate through the serial port with the ecu, but was fine running through a USB/serial adaptor so maybe try that.
The other thing is to make sure your battery is well charged, the emerald seems a little more intolerant of low battery voltages certainly on start-up, but it might affect the upload/download aswell if it's getting low? and on that point is it just the upload you're struggling with? can you retrieve the map off the ecu just can't upload back into the ecu again?

It's not a cable Emerald supplied, but it is one I made to their specs.
I don't seem to be able to download from, or upload to the ECU.
I've tried it from a laptop with built-in serial and from a different laptop with a USB to serial. I get the same result with both.....
Both laptops display live data.

I've just checked the maps again and now I'm even more confused.
What I was looking at wasn't an economy map. I think it's the original map. Am going to have to go away and examine a few things, as it doesn't really make sense!
Although I do know that the ECU has been running on the economy map as the switch isn't working yet....
