270 at the wheels is bang on for a 4.2 .. that's about 330/340 ish at the flywheel, nothing wrong with that at all.

Problem is every rolling road will give different results, tis a good plan to pop along to Charlies to see how it compare against his large data base of TVR's at least you will know if there is a 'real' problem or not. Fuelling looks good and linear, not sure where the sweet spot AFR is for the 4.2 though.

That said the figures you have there should roughly work out given a 20% loss to be about 335hp & 290lbs which whilst not amazing power is not bad for a boggo 4.2, I would say the torque is a bit low though, see what comes out of a visit to SRR.

Mine was tested last year - gave 270bhp then 276bhp at the wheels equivilant to approx 325bhp at the flywheel, but they took it to around 6300 revs. Next run 3 weeks later gave me 346bhp at the flywheel but they took it to 7200 revs.

I'd say that's probably about right at the wheels

My 4.2 was dyno'd at SRR last year and gave exactly 300 rwhp, 372 at the fly. With the tappets reset and the cam timing now spot on, after the ACT manifolds go on, its going to Joolz for a remap, and maybe a few more ponnies may fall out.

But you ask about how a 4.2 would compare to a GT3? Well, GT3s are very fast cars, make no mistake. A lot faster that I ever previously gave them credit for TBH. At Fighting Torque last year two GT3s were faster down the runway than a 996 Turbo! But I did manage to overhaul a 996 GT3 RS on the first race, which was nice.

Depends who's driving the GT3 if you ask me. hehe

I only popped in to see what was going on with this years FT and noticed this thread. I had my B7 RS4 on the rollers at the weekend (less said about that the better..........366bhp!) so came along here. The GT3 is a rocket ship that puts its power down fantastically, is very easy to launch once you learn how and will keep on pulling and pulling to over 190mph.

As FT showed you need a very special Tiv to be quicker than a GT3 and a standard 4.2 should not cause to much of a problem. The owner of the RS was not using more than 6K in his first few runs which is why he kept getting overhauled. When I said "try taking her to 8200" it started to go a bit better laugh

I've had my 4.2 rebuild by Andy a couple of weeks after you. As you say Andy expects 360 to 380 from his 4.2 rebuilds so maybe you should go to SRR for another go.

I'll be upto 2000 miles since rebuild in a couples of weeks so will be getting mine over to SRR. If you want we can arrnage to go at the same time to compare them.

Big wave to Housemaster, how are you enjoying the RS4 then?

I'll be having my Cerb RR'd sometime soon, now it has the new cams. I'll be interested to see if it feels different as I must have been down on power. Shame I didn't have something "before" to compare it to.

I just need a couple of months to pay off the bill for the cams first frown

A good friend is fettling his B7 RS4 which made 380bhp on the dyno in standard tune. 360-380bhp is typical according to his research on the forum he uses, so a bit short of the 414bhp claimed, sounds familiar doesn't it? Maybe Audi have been using some blackpool ponies!!

Hello mate!

The RS4 is an amazing road car, astonishing! It goes from A to B in any condition as quick as anything on the road. Its well damped, has amazing traction, loads of toys, enough power and is in the main well built. It's also BORING! Tis on its way soon and I shall be getting into something sensible for a bit until the next bit of Pork turns up around Q1 2009 all being well. The RS4 is not really my sort of car.

Off to VMax this weekend to see what she'll do Mr driving

I've been out a few times now and i'm astonished how much speed you can carry into a corner and get the power back down mid-apex, whereas my cerb would be lying upside down in a field. But i agree that as a fun car, it is a bit anodyne, even with a mongoose exhaust system fitted. A great everyday car though.

I sort of know what you mean. Although I've never been in the RS4, I have been in other perforance cars that are so "easy" that they lose some of the fun.

I hope there will be vids/pics of the day smile
