Finally found the cause of my horrendous oil leak under the drivers side of the car.

Always thought it had something to do with the dipstick tube where it went into the sump as there was some RTV around there. Anyway just got back from a blast and put it up in the air to reconect the washer bottle feed to find more oil than usual under the car. So drained the oil from the sump and picked off the RTV from around the tube nut on the dipstick, only to find the dipstick tube can move up and down freely in the nut. No wonder it bleedin leaking.

So my question is does anyone know how the tube is clamped into the nut and sealed in the top of the sump. The tube nut has a recess in the back as if to take a olive but the sump is threaded all the way through so there is no where for a olive to seat against. Also more worrinigly is as the dipstick tube is not clamped I have know way of knowing the correct oil level!

Just had a look at the parts manual this morning and there should be an olive on the dipstick tube that is clamped into the sump. Looks like some idiot has overtightened the tube nut and broken out the seat from the sump. MARVELLOUS!!
