Cool fuel query
Discussion
I want to reconnect the fuel cooler that runs off the air con system back onto the fuel return pipes - trouble is I cannot remember which fuel pipes should be connected to the cooler and which way the fuel flows through it.
Does ayone have a photo of the top of their engine with this system showing which pipe is which?
Mine is an early 4.2
Thanks
Jes

Won't make any difference tbh either way will do.
It makes cock all difference. You loose more power running the AC than you gain from cool fuel.
But shirley for the short sprints Jes does, turning off the aircon on the start line will leave enough latent cooling to do its job It makes cock all difference. You loose more power running the AC than you gain from cool fuel.

The problem that I have is that with all the stops and starts and then sitting in a queue just idling the fuel gradually gains heat all day resulting in pinking and misfiring - The a/c would be switched off before each run so it wouldnt sap power.
but i dont know which pipe should run to the fuel cooler. Is the the one that comes off the rear of the round thing beneath the rear of the fuel rail?

The fuel cooler doesn't do that much for three reasons:
1. It gets the air con gases after they have been through the main heat exchanger so they are not that cool at all.
2. The cooler is in the return to the tank and not the high pressure feed so that the fuel going to the injectors is taken from the tank not from the cooler
3. The air con actually increases the engine/underbonnet temperatures because of the load and the heat that is generated from the radiator.
Best plan is to push the car in the queue and not let the car idle.

It's the pipe off the bottom of the regulator Jes .. the low pressure return to the tank. I don't think it matters which way the fuel flows through it.
What I'll try and do aswell is get the MBE to control the aircon compressor properly (despite what people will tell you the meb in the cerb doesn't switch the air con out at high revs/throttle it always runs if switched on, only controlled by the air temp and system pressure) .. so you could potentially have it running during a sprint aswell and cut it out say above two thirds throttle when you're asking for hp .. on part throttle through corners etc you could still have it running as it wouldn't affect performance at all. Every little helps
