I had a scary moment in Germany where I drove up to 260km/h and suddenly I got oil over the right side of the windscreen.

Oilpressure ok and watertemp also. I saw oil was dripping out of the airfilterbox when I stood in front of the car.

I knew I had too much oil in and once read the the cerb will waste oil in such cases.

I did not know what to do, but since oilpressure was ok and the watertemp also I decided to drive back home at no more than 100-120km/h.It did not come back anymore on the windscreen, but I think the much lower speed caused this.

Back home it still dripped out of the airfilterbox. Telephoning to TVR Belgium learned me that it could not have been a leakage of an oilpipe or oilcooler. In this case I would have lost all of my oil in seconds.

All in all I drove approx. 300 kilometers. It threw out its oil. On the way back I put an extra 0,5litre oil in the block to be sure everything should stay ok. I put the car in the garage and after 4 days I pulled out the dipstick to see that there was just one little spot of oil at the underside of the dipstick.

This would mean it threw out more than it was overfilled. Until now I drove approx 2000 kilometers in the car and it consumed almost a litre per 1000 kilometers which is not uncommon.

Did anyone else had such an experience??

quite common to see cerbs with oil dripping out of teh airbox after a hard thrash, particulalry sustained high speed work. If you take the pipe off that runs to the o/s airbox and rev the engine it's amazing how much oil flies out, it can soak the radiator and fans in a few minutes.
It may be that your engine is a bit more worn than some and you have more crankcase pressure than is usual, but it's by no means uncommon to find oil leaking from the airbox/airfilter so that in itself doesn't alarm me. It does sound to be a lot if it gets on to covering the screen though .. more investigation required methinks.

It was (I think)the speed which caused the oil to come that far. Above 200km/h (125mp/h)the oil came back. Driving at around 70 mp/h nothing came over the windscreen.

It happened for the first time when driving 160 mp/h.

Hi,

had the same expierence on my cerb at high speed on german autobahn. The pressure from the crankcase throws the oil out. I installed a separator and a pump to suck the oil back into the sump of the engine at over 5000 revs. That worked fine for some thousand km. But then the engine had to come out for a complete revision. The reconditioned engine does not throw any more oil at high revs, it can be driven at high revs on the autobahn as long as I want. Just did a 1000 km high speed drive to Belgium and back last weekend.

This is why you don't overfil with oil.

Crank whip causes aeration and raises the temp and volume of oil.

This causes more whip and more aerated oil.

This then gets flung around the crankcase and suspended in the crankcase gases. This is then pulled into the right hand air box due to the plumbing of the vent and the poor serperator system.

You shouldn't have done any damage. Most damage would have been to big ends or the furthest parts fo the camshafts.
