Handbrake Shoes !!
Discussion
Just fitted new H'brake shoes. there is a small 'notch', a cut out on one side only, on the inside of the shoes, logic tells me that the threaded HB adjuster should fit into this cut out, but the 'lever' thingy at the top also fits. So it looks like the shoes can be fitted either way round, but does any one know which way round? (It's one of those things you either know or you dont. And yes I should have done one side at a time, but I didnt, so both sides have the shoes removed).
So is it the 'notch' at the top, or notch at the bottom.
So is it the 'notch' at the top, or notch at the bottom.
Damm - thought I had an answer then
I got the shoes from TVR Car Parts.

Thanks Tim - Nice 'n clear
However....Are you 100% sure it's correct. I did manage to get mine assembled again, I tried it with the 'notches' - circled in Red - at the top, then at the bottom. In the end the notches went at the bottom, simply because it was the only that the stronger spring (the top one) would stretch between the 2 locating holes. If you look at the distance of the 'spring' holes from the edge, you'll notice that the holes are a different distance apart for the 'notched' and 'un-notched' ends.
So are you 100% sure your foto is correct - ie the 2 shoes fit 'notch' (red circle end) to 'un-notched'?
note: Uncle Dave's Image uploader isnt working so I cant post the pic
The notches are at the Top of the Left Show, and at the bottom of the Right shoe - hope this makes sense.

Well that's how mine came off and that's how they went back together.

So, I can only assume that it was correct.
You've got me thinking now.

Tim .. looking at the marks on your RH shoe it looks like thats upside down .. see the two lighter patches on the edge of the shoe? that's where it had been against the backplate of the brakes when fitted. Also there's no evidence of the spring clip through the central hole in the RH shoe .. you can clearly see the mark it left on the LH shoe though, so I say LH shoe correct RH shoe wrong if you wererefitting them the way they came off, of course it could be that they were entirely wrong to start with

Need to take my brakes apart tomorrow now and see WTF I've done.

Tim
Tim - I've just re-done mine !
The correct way round is for the 'notches' to be at the TOP.
The H'brake pivot mechanism thingy locates into these 2 notches.
The lip at the bottom of the shoes prevents the wheeled adjuster from riding up the inner of the shoe.
Also the pivot mechanism on your earlier pic appears to have the part that attaches to the cable, the wrong way round. Remove the Pivot pin, and re-assemble it the other way round. There should be an arrow engraved on the large part that points towards the front of the car.
All a bit confusing without pictures, but I can't upload them - sorry.
