I've now had my Cerbera 4 years and every year I clean the chassis and recoat it with a rubber/plastic spirit based thick paint. It doesn't need doing every year but nevertheless I do it! Makes me feel better...

However, some areas of the chassis you just can't get to and every year I sit and look at it thinking I must clean those areas and repaint!

Well this year (last weekend) I did and cleaned the areas around the exhaust manifolds and inner wings using a shot blast gun on a compressed airline.

The results were amazing!!! I stripped off the airboxes (4.5) to expose chassis areas and cling filmed/taped-up the whole engine and other areas to avoid the shot getting into places not wanted. I fired shot from above and below whilst car was on a two poster lift and was amazed at how easy it was and how clean it came up. I ended up doing all the front end suspension parts as well. It took several hours but really cleaned up well.

I was also impressed with the condition of the chassis as some areas did look ropey with the powder coat flaking off (that's areas you couldn't reach by hand) but was cleaned up back to shiney metal with shot blast gun fired from a distance.

Anyway, thought you'd like to know that its not always a body off option to clean the chassis, unless beyond the point of no return!!

Nice one Si! Any pics!!?

I didn't realise you could shot blact outside a cabinet silly Must make a bloody awfull mess hehe

Did you hire the stuff, or buy? How much?

I'm doing mine at the moment with nitromors and various drill/wire attatchments. Also got alot of bits to take down to the shot blasters to get cleaned up.
Wish you could hire the cabinets out really...

Sorry no pictures, too messy to get camera out!

The shot blast gun looks just like a spray paint gun but with a 10mm bore tube on the end to spray the shot.

I borrowed it from a friend but wouldn't be more than 30 quid to buy.

Blasting everything in position was such a saving of time and energy really making it light work, well worth the trouble! The shot is heavy and doesn't dust so as soon as it hits the target it just falls to the ground rather than filling the place with dust.

Trouble is it gets in your hair, ears, eyes (wear goggles or a face screen), mouth, down your back, arms, trousers!!! No really found black shot in my pants!
