Afternoon all. I've been to see a Cerb this morning which I kinda like, but it has a few faults. Just trying to gauge prices to make it as right as I can get it.

Average cost for a front end respray (Iunderstand this can vary a lot, but thoughts from those who've had it done / had quotes please) Colour is Halycon Midaas pearl I think - yellow pearl anyway biggrin haha

How bad is the job to replace ARB drop links. They've gone, so need doing, am I right in thinking Steve Heath ones ? No objection to doing them myself, just wanna know how bad they are to do ?

How much to retrim the drivers seat (all or part) ? as the bolster is worn and could do with doing

ETA - Oh yeah, how much is a boot carpet aswell ? as thi has been pieced in and needs doing properly

Cheers peeps,

Mike

I just had a quote for a front end respray (front, bonnet, both wings) - £771 +VAT (v.good IMO - the guy's just got some fancy computerised drying machine which cuts the labour time dramatically)

The Steve heath drop links are £69 per pair. Can't see anything tricky about fitting them (famous last words).

Don't know about retrimming, but a chap in Warrington quoted me £225 for reconnolising all the front leather.

Cheers Si. Biggest/most expensive issue is the fact that the front end needs painting badly - looks like it's done 50 miles trailing a grit wagon on full go frown

Few other niggles and bits needing doing, but haven't discounted it yet. 1 more to see/drive and then work out what to do ?

Fingers crossed eh ?

Cheers,

Mike

Re the front end, when you get it sprayed look at it and enjoy as that'll be the last time you see it stone chip free imhe. Unless there are more chips than paint I've never understood the fixation, it's a car and it will get stone chipped sooner than you think.

My sentiment entirely - These cars are to be driven without worrying about the odd stone chip. So many people look to make a decision on buying these cars based on colour and how well the bodywork polishes up. Next thing you see is a newby post asking how to deal with a knact clutch or some other big issue. Cant help but smile!

Mines still for sale by the way smile

Don't worry fella's she'd be no garage queen while I had her. The comment I actually made while driving was "Hmm, can't see those stone chips from here" biggrin haha

I just like my cars to be right, yes I know it's gonna chip again afterwards, but it just lets it down the way it looks now. It may not be something I'd do right away, I just wanna make sure I know how much it'd cost to do when I do want to get it done.

Hi GazzaB.

Yeah engine and chassis seem good. Temp. behaves itself when out, even stuck in traffic. Oil pressure is way up as soon as it's at anything above tickover. Oil pressure is 55 ish when cold and 40 solid when hot - both at idle. Guess this is as good a sign as any of engine condition ?

Cheers,

Mike

Hi mate. Mines gone for a front end respray today. will cost approx £450. Bonnet, front splitter and mirrors. Well recommended company to so we shall see what the results are like. My dad had his chim front end resprayed for around £500 too which matches mine so should give a good idea of price.

How about checking for clods of mud around the outrigger corners behind the front wheels.

It seemed pretty clear to be honest byker. It wasn't new by any stretch but looked fairly solid when I had a look & poke around. Just the usual road rash on the underside of the outrigger tubes, but the webs and tubes themselves didn't have much rubbish on them.

Think I'll be going back to have a second viewing this week to settle my mind - anything else I should look out for specifically guys ?

Thanks for all the help & comments so far smile

Then again as a buyer you factor in £500 for a front end blow over. Admire it, get stone chips, start the process over again hehe

I'm not really sure what your getting at with that comment. Presentation is great to a point, but bloody pointless when dealing with individuals who know what their buying. Ive just tried to be honest in describing the car. Perhaps I should be a little more economical with the truth. Then again I could just keep it smile

We are in a buyers market which, with super unleaded at £6.08 a gallon and rampant inflation. Anything you can do to make the item you are selling stand out as the best available has got to help achieve a sale.

If you want to sell it that is smile

in the general mix of things to look out for when buying a Cerb, a stonechipped front-end is immaterial. There are so many other aras where you can be let down spectacularly that I personally don't even think paint quality is a consideration at all.

I think it is important. But is less important than engine, chassis, history etc....
A full respray could cost a bomb. Some people like their cars to be perfect. I certainly hate finding scratches or stone chips. Even a front end spray can cost a grand.
But they are circa 10 yr old cars and were hand made so the seats, carpet, paint etc will be looking worn now.

thank goodness for Mars and Gazzab and their voices of reason. To be honest I was begining to lose faith in the Cerbera community. I have been innundated with rediculous offers and stupid requests that have demonstrated to me that the world is full of wannabe timewaster. I can only assume the colour isn't everybodies cup of tea, thats fine, but when somebody makes me an insulting offer, which I didn't actually dismiss, then decides the car isn't 5 minutes away from them, you can imagine how frustrated I became.
Oh well. Onwards and upwards smile

Steve - I think your car looks great. I love the colour. It is a good genuine 4.2 with a rebuild. So a real winner. So long as your chassis is fine and the car is generally in good condition then somoene should be onto a winner with it.
Problem is the market, the chancers, the perfectionists (looking at the wrong things), the spec (eg people want later lights, bigger wheels, 4.5 tuned up, blue brigade etc)....... Cant remember what your car is up for but I am sure it is a relative bargain.
