soot on rear of car
Discussion
I seem to be getting a fine sooty type deposit on the rear of the car. Especially around the nearside and the numberplate area. It's easily wiped off but the car being yellow it always shows up.It appears worse now I have fitted sport pipes.
The car runs fine other than losing a little water; Any ideas what might be wrong? or do they all do that sir!

It's quite normal - so nothing to worry about.
Our car did it when we 1st got it, stopped after the next service, but I've been told by a few people that it's quite normal....

3000 miles per litre is about right. Sounds like your mixture is a bit rich. As Olly says, probably nothing to worry about, but if you're concerned it might be worth taking it to your dealer/friendly independent and getting them to hook up your management unit to a computer.

Using up to 1 litre per 1000 miles is not unheard of, and still nothing to worry about... Will go lower still if used hard at a track day....
Thanks for the replys guys, I shall get the dealer to check out the mixture when its in tomorrow having a new starter motor.
The dealer has pressure tested the system twice and reported no leaks, I have also changed the pressure cap but it still loses water.
Yesterday I found a damp patch on the panel under the rad on the nearside, will get them to look for a third time.........
