What 4.5? Do you know these cars?
Discussion
Hello all, after lusting after a Cerb for years and reading this forum back to front I am currently in a position to buy my dream car. It is a second weekend car and am fully prepared for it to have issues (I do a lot of work myself). My last car was an e46 m3 with cams, race car and remap and was pulling 375 bhp but I found it more detatched than my previous e36 m3. I also ride bikes (last one was a zx10r) so used to deadly rearwheel drive with loads of power.
I am set on a 4.5 and have come into a big was of money so can aford 15 - 18k as am paying off a loan and credit cards as well.
I like the later Tuscan seats and later lights but they are not something to make me reject a car.
The cars I have my eye on is this 2001 4.5 LW but being sold by a trader worries me as I can't get an owners insite into the car and ask all those important questions. SO does anyone know of this one?

This one is a slightly earlier non Lightweight but a more agreeable price (difference covers a large chunk of an engine rebuild) and some good mods to boot
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/554891.htm
Any info on these two would be most appretiated, and thanks in advance for any help and for all the useful info that I have read fromall your posts in this forum.
The thought of owning IMO the most beautiful car ever made is almost too much!!!
Oh and at £289 classic car insurance just tops it all off

The grey interior works better for me. Both good outside colours though .. viper blue is my fave cerb colour so anything that colour or close is a winner for me. The dealer car is James Birkby TVRinBFG on here, he's a nice bloke so give him a call and see what he says. Say hi from me
Also another good dealer is james agger so have a look through his website aswell

when I was looking for a Cerb, I had a look round the dealers, test drove a couple to see what they were like, and to my suprise, they were quite individual, and drove quite differently ( and this was my 5th TVR I had owned). I was also supprised about the power delivery from the V8.I am set on a 4.5 and have come into a big was of money so can aford 15 - 18k as am paying off a loan and credit cards as well.

Get out there and see them, and get a drive or two from some people on here if they are near to you and then you will get a feel for the car. There is lots of info on here about them, and people here are always good on giving advice.
Happy hunting
Mr F
I am having to get temp day insurance for Private testdrives as I didn't know my Insurance company had changed it from being standard and won't retrospectively add it (gits). Traders at least I will not have problems with the test drives.
Any local boys who want to talk my legs off about ther cerb would be more than welcome to come for a cuppa or a paid for pint

Hi Roy (Replicant)
I think you'll be a bit hard pushed to find a private owner who'd be willing to let you test drive their Cerbera, it's just not the done thing.
But, whatever happens , whatever you do, make sure you ask on here and get a independant to look over Her before making the final commitment, it could save you thousands of pounds and heartbreak too.
Please don't think I'm being too negative, I just want you to get a good Cerbera after reading about so many bad investments.
Regards

The 4.5LW, the first car, we supplied to its last owner in Apr 03 at 15700 miles and got it back a couple of weeks ago as he's become a grandfather and wanted something more practical. It's to be serviced this week or next by X-Works service if you want an independent third party opinion on the car.
The 4.5, the second private car, we supplied to its current owner in Sep 06 at 22650 miles, so he's been using it, which is a good sign. When he bought it, he had us do the blended headlight conversion and a front end respray for stonechips. Sam, the owner is a friendly chap and I am sure won't mind you calling him to discuss the car further.

Hi Simon
Oh I definitely wouldn't expect an owner to let me ruck up and drive their baby, more to meet up with an enthusiast for a chat and for them to show off their pride and joy to me. I know I would happily bore the legs off anyone who showed the slightest interest in my modded M3
I obviously want to drive as many as possible but being an honest chap don't want to go to Indis to test cars I have no intention on buying, all the cars I have an interest in allays seem to be miles away (obviously to find the correct car that is irrelevant).
Hi TVRinBFG
Just to confirm you are / work for TVR MADS? If so I will probably give you a call later today to have a chat if you would be so kind. An independent opinion from X-Works service (can't get much better than that) would be fantastic. Is this something they are happy to do or do I need to request it before the car goes in for the service?
I have to say this sort of help and knowledge is one of the main reasons I want a TVR, how many other times when buying a car can you go to a forum and bee guaranteed to have multiple replies providing info on a car for sale. Seems more like sharing ex-girlfriends "She was a real go-er, liked to drink a bit and cost me the earth, but was worth it for that sexy body alone"
Cheers all

" what the fark have you done to my credit card this month ffs?"
or....
"blimey, you're a bit stroppy this morning. Is that because I didnt take you with me last night"
or....
" yes dear, of course you can have a makeover this weekend"
or....
"you're looking right HOT today, Im gunna rag the arse off you later"
etc etc

Second cerb has fewer miles, plus it is mapped and has an induction kit fitted, which is not a cheap option. It also has blended in projector headlights which make it look a bit tidier, so I'd favour that one. The deciding factor has to be chassis condition though, which is a good reason to look at both!
I don't like grey interiors and I have a pair of driving gloves spectacularly similar in colour/shade to the tan interior of the older one. Given that it has had a remap and an induction kit, and has had a new clutch recently it might be the one to go for...
... but...
... as has been said, check the chassis. Don't be put off by peeling powdercoat but DO "bodge" the chassis around the outrigger areas with your ignition key. It might look rusty but could be intact. Mine was OK despite not looking great. It needed attention with some POR15 (and its new owner found a little hole which he welded up) but that's an easy fix.

Had a good chat with Sam today (Cheers chap), I think I asked him every question under the sun
And now you nasty people have gone and added even more 4.5s to muddle my mind, Mr Freefalls RR LW looks amazing !!
Crazy how I started looking into Cerbs at 4.2s between 12-15k and now I am set on a 4.5 and am looking at 15-18k
