My Cerbera 4.5 is due in for a service soon and was wondering if i should ask for Mobile 1 0w40 to be put in instead of the motorsport 15w50, the car has almost zero oil consumption over the last 2 years/18000 miles even when it was on 0w40. I use the car every day and will be doing so over the winter months and was wondering if the 15w50 was a bit too thick for the frozen winter mornings.
Can anyone recommend any other brand?

I would stick with what the factory recommend, which is Mobil 1, if its good enough for F1 engines, its good enough for the AJP, as for viscosity, my handbook says either 15W 40 or 5W 50, so should be fine on 15w 40 for the winter, however, as I understand it, the first number indicates the viscosity at low temperatures, so lower in the winter would be better than high.

Good thinking Darren.

I have certainly seen this suggested with other makes of car. The 0W40 is certainly thinner and gives better protection when cold.

I don't really think it will make too much difference in Britain though, Sweden maybe.

If you are worried fit an oil temp gauge, that way you will see if the oil is reaching the right temp quickly enough.

Does anyone know if the cerbie oil coolers are controlled by a thermostat? (I personally doubt it)

Rob.

I was wondering about going back to Mobil 1 0W40 as was originally recommended after the run in period but most people seem to think that it is too thin when hot hense some cars having high oil consumption so i was thinking of using the Valvoline Synthetic 5W50 instead.

The general feeling here is that Mobil 1 0W40 is too thin.

The factory would only have recommended it due to some sort of sponsorship, they recommend carlube now.

I think thicker oil is better (even though mine runs on 0W40 coz the dealer uses it), never tried valvoline but I think Joolz uses it (correct me if I'm wrong) so I'm sure it is fine.

According to Joolz, the thinner oil was used due to a sponsorship deal. I now use mobil motorsport 15W50.

Is there a problem with mixing different oils? I currently have Mobil 1 0w40, but it needs topping up. It seems 0w40 is hard to get hold of at the moment, so can I buy 15w50 and top up with that instead?

Thxs,

Neil
