I'm have a dilemma as to whether I should change my front pads ahead of the ring trip or not.

In terms of material left, they're only about half way, but I did give them a jolly good cooking the other day at Knockhill (enough to boil the fluid, but not smoking/smelling too much from the pads themselves), and although stopping performance seems as normal (as normal as can be tested in road conditions), there is a little visible crumbling on the leading edge of the pads.

I've got some Pagid Yellows waiting to go in, but I've just had another good look at the old ones and the miser in me is saying there's plenty of life left in them (plus, I'll only be doing motorway driving between now and the ring itself, so I'm concerned that new pads will still be a bit green).

So do I:
1) Do nothing
2) Change for new pads
3) remove old pads and tidy up the leading edges on the bench grinder

Thoughts?

If it was me, I'd just take them with me, fit them there if I needed to.

How long are you going for? I chucked a new set of pads in before Spa and 8 laps of the ring earlier this year and only used 50% of them. The Ring isn't that hard on the brakes really.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and change them anyway - not because I think the others are going to wear out in the duration of the trip (the current ones have done 6-7k road miles, one ring trip and upteen trackdays and are only half done), but because it's the biggest event of the trackday year, and I want to be on top fighting form (there'll be Porsches than need putting in their place!). Shiney new bits aren't doing me any good sitting on my desk!
