I'm trying to fix some brake judder. Pads and discs seem OK but I've found some play in the lower wishbones where they meet the chassis. If I put a crowbar in the joint I can get the lower wishbone to move along the axis of the car by 3 or 4mm. This then moves the whole wheel hub back and forth slightly. It does it on both sides. In the joint, the space between the wish arm and chassis bracket is filled with rubber. I'm guessing this is part of the bush. Surely any play in the wishbone is wrong? I'm guessing these joints should be shimmed? Any advice?

There should be very, very little, if any, play in the bush, it's a metalastic bush, i.e. a metal tube with rubber around it and a metal ring around that, it should all be a snug fit into the wishbone. They do wear, let's not forget our cars are getting on a bit now, and TVR didn't use the best quality components in the first place.

Below is the TVR exploded diag of the front suspension assy'

Plenty of pics on my web site of suspension strip down and components.

As a second thought, it's not the ball joints that have gone is it? Are you sure it's play in the bush?

I'm also in Kent, halfway between Maidstone and Ashford. With this sort of issue, I was wondering if I could drive the car over to benefit from your mega knowledge.

Jon,

That might be a tad difficult, my driveway looks like a scrap yard at the moment, with no room, and cars in various states of repair!

I'm working tomorrow but may be able to pop over one evening next week if I can juggle work. shoot me a mail with your details m8.

Oh and I'm not that much of an expert. There's a lot more on here with a far greater knowledge than me yes
