Just a quick one guys.
I have now given up trying to get the Cerb running right! After hours of work and an empty wallet it has beaten me.

Where would people recommend for me to take the Cerb to get it running tip top again? It needs a full diagnostic and someone that knows about modified 4.5's (not me clearly).

I am in Hertfordshire (Junc 8 of M11) but dont mind putting it on the trailer and driving.

Thanks in advance
Ben

Ben, have you plugged in a laptop to check the adaptives? May just be the throttle pots need setting up properly.

You are probably right, and i have plugged the laptop in, but i dont know how to read / fix the readings.

Up to now I have changed:
both coil packs
both throttle position sensors
all plugs and leads
had the exhaust manifold re sealed (£500)
had the engine balanced at tvr specialist

this is now my last resort before i give up and put it on Ebay.

All help welcome before i go back to the Jap cars

It's always good to see people taking a genuine interest in their cars and the workings, and also good to see many people repairing their own cars (mad mark and julian64 spring to mind first here) .. but you've just found one of the dangers of trying to fix something yourself .. if you can't go through a proper proceedure you end up replacing everything, spending in your case what looks like close to 1000 pounds and still not fixing the fault. frown

Either have a word with Joos at Trackcar (just posted) or speak to Matt at Silverstone Performance - and arrange to have it set up. But please don't give up on the car, they are wonderful tongue out

Ben, I am also in Herts. If you want to bring her over the weekend, I'll call Bud (another PHer) over and see if we can all suss out what it might be.

Managed to find MadMarks faulty lights a coupla weeks ago. Just bouncing ideas off each other. Two/three heads better than one and all.

Let me know.

David

Have you tried Trackcar's fan chip and water wetter. It solved my problem.

Is it just the temp guage saying the temp is going up? Or are you getting physical syptoms too, steam, etc?

Could just be a temp sensor problem. THey're not that great even when they ARE working ok.
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious. Not sure what you've done so far.

hi

the first question here should be "what do you mean by running right"?

The main problem is that the revs are not stable. It will start up and idle from cold however if left ticking over it will slowly die and stall. Whilst driving this happens more quickly and when the revs drop from high the engine will immediatley drop to below idle and cut out.
What it means is you constantly need to heal and toe the throttle and if sitting in traffic its sounds like you are reving the engine.
I have tried adjusting the idle settings and changed nearly every ignition part for new items.
The car is quite undrivable.

Hi cad .. ive tried all we can think of .. 2 temp senders .. 2 thermostats ... guage and laptop read similar ... so who knows

... and re water wetter / fan chip ... its more than that cos somethings just wrong - that will only help when problems fixed !

GTO .. re your running problem mine did the same when I had a bit of water in the ECU plug (but I had mil light also)

???

All fun tho!!

Have you disconnected the main coolant hoses and seen if there's actually water flowing? it sounds exactly like the water pump isnt pumping to me ...
edited to add .. did it do this on the original thermostat also? there's two configurations of pipework on the thermostats so make sure you've got the correct version smile

Apparently you loosen the screws on the Tpots and rotate them till they are in the correct parameters shown on the laptop.
