Not sure if this is a problem or not. I'll rotate the headlights switch to position I and absolutely nothing happens, no interior lights, no exterior sidelights front or back. Rotate it to position II and I get dash lights and dipped beam. Its not a fuse, as I believe sidelights are on the fog light and hazards fuse, which are all fine. So wondering if this is a product of the headlight conversion, and that I'm not actually meant to be able to get sidelights on there own?

No you definitely have a problem. Take it back to whoever did the conversion. The dash lights, int lights, rear and front sidelights should come on in position 1. Sounds like fuse/wiring prob.

Hmm, well the conversion was done 7 years ago, and I only got the car a week back....

With have to start hunting around with the multimeter again then!

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but I (with a little help, from some friends....), managed to sort out the sidelights whilst away at the 'Ring last week. Realised it was one or two dodgy connections into the molex connectors in the boot. One was the white wire into the dim/dip relay pack, the terminal doesn't want to lock into the connector anymore. Another wire that was giving me problem was just a poor connection, due to dodgy past wiring.

On the subject, there is a really weird really that's just been spliced into a couple of wires before the headlights control box, anyone know if this is normal on light conversions? Will try and get pics later!

Always good to update - a lot of people don't so we never get to find out what the solution was smile

Can't help you on the relay, sorry.

Do you have HID lamps? If so it may be a mod so that the dips stay on with the main beams.

No HIDs, but my dips do stay on with the mains.

Thats what the relay is doing then, as they don't normally.

I did that mod with mine when I fitted the HIDs, I used a relay first but I found that the HIDs still blinked when I switched to mains.

So I modified the control box. I did post the mod on here ages ago, with pics, but I'm not sure if its still accessible via the search.

Perhaps there should be a sticky thread for mods like this.

Alinton - I followed the advice you gave, but I can't find the thread either. From memory I'm sure the solution was just to cut the Blue/red (or Blue/White) wire that goes into the light control box - does that jog your memory, I'll have a look at mine later on.

No, all that does is disconnect the 7v that goes to the dip lights when the sides are on.

You have to open the control box and fit a couple of diodes. Let's see if I can attach a pic:

From memory the diodes are 1N5402 or 1N4006. They have to handle about 3A.

Andy.

p.s. My car passed its MOT the other day with the HIDs, once they had been aligned properly by Austec.
