Just wondered if someone could relate to this.

My spanner man fitted new redstuff pads all 'round, and I'm getting bad break squeal from the fronts.

Disks are "like new" and I've done about 200 miles so far on the new pads.

Do I let them bed in a bit more or is there something I should know ?

The previous pads were barely worn, and didn't squeal.

cheers

Thats because Red Stuff are generally race pads intended for the track (not sure why anyone chooses to fit them on a car intended for the road (not that I know what yours is intended for). Race pads generally do cause a lot of noise until they get enough heat in them and hit their true operating temperature.

You can get anti-squeel shims from a couple of places, Racing Green do them I think.

Hmm, don't agree with that tbh.

I agree that Reds were, at one point, meant for track use, but not so these days. they work well from cold. Although the yellows can be a tad scary. biggrin

If you check the EBC site you'll see that they recommend 'reds' as standard fit and 'yellows' as an upgrade.

I've used 'Reds' for 8 years, with no problems, they do squeel.

Mike did the pads have the scotch pad on the back of them?

You could try the trick of sticking material to the back of the pad, i'd suggest a bit of soldering pad, but someone on here used the blown foam as found in the bottom of tool-chest drawers.

Just spoke to mechanic and he can't remember if he fitted them; fantastic.

They were loose in the bag.

Guess I'm going to have to take the wheel off and check.

I have red stuff pads with new disc's, fitted firstly as is! Squeel was embrassing to say the least and always when coming to a stop!

Ordered some sticky anti-squeel pads for the back of the pads and this helped but still getting some noise from pads. I must say though that they are slowly getting better the more I use them.

Hi All

Had my Cerb over 3 years now and never had any kind of brake squeal front or back, until last service that is. Rear pads were making a clattering noise to start with, this was cured by a trip back to the establishment that always services Her. All it needed was a bit of silicon sealant applied to the pads and great no noise since. Trouble is a couple of weeks later the front pads started squealing really loud especially when going very slow. Annoying is the understatement of the year. Don't know if the remedy for the rear is the same as the front. Any ideas? All I do know is that each time I drive the Cerb, I dread driving her in built up areas where I know people are thinking, "nice car like that and can't even be bothered to change worn out brake pads, wa***r"

Regards
Simon

I had one guy hanging out the window of the car in front gobbing off because my brakes were squealing. Not nice when you have two young daughters in the back seats.

Ant-squeal shims from Clever Trevor stopped mine.

ALways used the standard Mintex Pads front and rear (Jag XJ220 & Mini Metro rear!). A smear of CoppaSLip on the back and I've never had any rattles or squeals.
