I have had the cerb off the road for a while and am now ready to use her again, the day i came to use her and the mil light wont go off, so armed with a laptop and the serial cable and software to find out where the problem is and when i connect it all up to the ecu, the software says that its not connected, I have had the cable (standard serial cable) tested and its ok, so how do i get it all to work

TIA

Check the settings for the port first.
goto my computer right click scroll down to properties,
then click the hardware tab,
then the device manager tab,
look for ports (COM%LPT)
click com port,
click port settings,
in the boxes you should have,
Bits per second 4800
Data bits 8
Parity None
Stop bits 1
Flow control None.

Try with these settings and post back. Im using xp by the way.
Make sure the immobilisor(sp) is off

Ignition on, press the blipper to turn the imobiliser off, try F5 to reconnect.

Oh and as above it seems to like Com1 best

Try to run the software in emulated windows 98 mode. This can be done by left clicking on the .exe file and choose preferences. In preferences you can choose to run the program in emulated win 98 mode.

If you do the above, which com port does windows think you are using?

I only get the option for com port 1, there is only 1 serial port on the laptop

I had to have the engine running on mine the other week to get a connection.

It should work with the key turned / immobiliser disabled, but I was getting nothing.
Once the engine was fired up, it all ran smoothly.

even managed to capture some logs whilst running around - interesting to see how hard you do actually press the loud pedal (i.e. not as hard as you might think)

You'd be better off with a PCMCIA card with a serial output on it, the USB to serials are not that brilliant.

I get the same message as you - do this every time on mine, and it always works.

Fire up the Diags progr
Go into device Manager, go down to Com Ports, Right CLick on Comm1 and uninstall the driver.
Now Right click on Ports, and Re-Scan for Hrdware Changers.
It then detects the 'new Device', and the Diags start working.

Tried this but it didnt work, came up with an error message when I uninstalled the driver, so it knows the port is there just cant connect with the ecu
