Recently sold my lovely Griffith 500 on. Whilst the diesel Lupo is a grat car, in it's way, it doesn't tick ALL the buttons...

Never been in a Speed 6.. after a 5 litre V8 would it excite?

Either you are considering a Speed Six Cerb, or your chest wig has got caught in the keyboard.hehe

There is only one disappointment, and that is the warm up clatter from the engine. Once warm, how could you fail to be excited. Totally different to RV8 and AJP8. Just wish I could trail my head behind the car to enjoy the noise more.

Oh dear, here we go again.....

Surely they can't all be bad, you've had three of them yourself? I would suggest the poster was after info on driving experience. Wallet experience is another matter, and all cerbs can do that damage.

Get yourself out in any Speed six EdT, and see for yourself. It is not all doom and gloom

Trouble is there are some bargains around with 2 less cylinders. Or are they simply 'bargains'. Long term I'd prob prefer an AJP8 - but thinking of running a smaller priced speed 6 for a year and selling on for (hopefully) just a little loss, just to put a tick in the Cerebra box.

I think thats what we did, got hold of a Cerb at a bargain price with the view to keeping it for a year and ticking a box... hehe 8 years later... evil

There are some serious AJP8 bargains out there too, and the six box can always be ticked later on with a T350/Sag. Buyers market, make the most of it! biggrin

Is it naive to think its possible to keep one healthy on a reasonably tight budget?

As nice as the RV8 is the sound of the AJP8 is just astounding. I have had RV8 cars, chevy small blocks and the AJP8 just blows them all away, don't get me wrong the SP6 sounds lovely but is not a patch on the sound of a a race spec flat planed crank v8 :P.

As has been said the time for a SP6 for me is when I can add a Segaris to my collection (still to steep for my wallet)

If budgets are tight the 4.5 is probably the "toughest" of the range and will be the best bet to avoid a nasty rebuild.

Hi Ed wavey from back in NZ these days.

My 2c - if you want to 'tick the Cerbera box' then it has to be an AJP. If you want to experience the Speed 6 then do it in a T350/Tam/Tuscan. My experience was going from a Griff to a Tamora and it was (is) a better driving experience in every way.

Ed - I think you have been in a Sp6 car - I'm convinced I took you out in that Tamora demonstrator I had as a courtesy car when a certain TVR dealer tried to stitch me up when I bought my Griff. Come to think of it the same TVR dealer had to provide me with a Sp6 Cerbera when the camshaft failed in said Griff after 10 mins. It would feel significantly faster and more sophisticated than your Griff and I don't think the Sp6 sound would disappoint

Cheers

Ed

for comparison, you're welcome to experience an AJP 4.2 for comparison.

Yes.

Also note. It cost nothing to treat an engine with the sympathy it deserves when cold.

Nope, not if the engine is OK. But, unless the engine has been upgraded, and I dont mean simply rebuilt to the same TVR spec, then you will at some point have a big bill.

1)Cams
2)Follower
3)Valves
4)Valveguides
5)Headbuild for the
6)worn spindles on the butterflies
7)Increase oilways for oil feed to head

Above are some of the thing you would have to do, I would say the above is in the region of £3-4k

Don't forget the lack of oil feed to the half speed bearing in the front cover, the poor rod design on the 4.0ltrs and head gaskets with a propensity to failure.

Shame really as all the 6 cylinder cars are great with very few associated problems other than the engine.
