GUys, anyone upgraded there sound system in their Cerb?? Obviously the head unit is pretty straight forward, however the fitments for the other speakers are a bit on the small side and the standard pioneer speakers seem of poor quality. Is the best thing simply to fit an enclosed subwoofer in the boot. I bascially need better sound (all throughout the frequency range) without making modications to the car.

I'm interested in this too. Just got myself a new head-unit for it, and am now thinking about speakers. Was considering putting a sub in the hole between the rear seats.
Yep, I have an Alpine head unit, 12 Disc Alpine CD changer (fits perfectly above the fuel tank in the boot with no drilling required), Infinity component speakers in the front doors (took hours to fit in order to make it look professional), replaced the rears with Infinity, I have a MAC 600W amplifier suspended using brackets over the fuel tank on the driver side (obviously no drilling required and a 12 inch boxed sub in the boot. Currenty contemplating a 10 inch sub in the cubby hole between the seats but not sure if I would get enough base. Sounds pretty good, however a new head unit with TV etc is on my shopping/christmas present list to myself after a sports exhaust.

If you're getting a sports exhaust, make sure the TV supports subtitles.

I've put a 10inch sub between the back seats where the helmet goes. Made an enclosure to suit, and trimmed it in leather/leatherette, the same as the cars trim. The amp is fastened on the inside of the back wing in the boot. Used a JL sub and Genesis amp. Sounds great.., but sometime in the near future I'll change front door speakers.

That's where mine is (in the rear cubbie hole inbetween the rear seats)
Anybody got any photos of this? Think the 4 normal speakers need replacing first, though, as they're really distorted at not-that-high volume.
I have changed the head unit and fitted a Sony CDX-MP40 (plays MP3 CD's). Replaced all the speakers with Sony ones and mounted a 10 inch sub between the rear seats. Complete with a 350 watt amp in the boot and a six disc changer on top of the petrol tank.

Hi,
I've changed all the speakers got 6" components in the front, 4" components in the rear, the tweeters in the rear was a
to fit, fronts not to bad had to have 1" thick spacers wrapped in leather made to help the fronts fit also, have a 10" sub in a custom enclosure fitted between the rear seats (due to the confined space you are limited to sub choice)have also changed the head unit to a pioneer, and have 1 amp driving the fronts and sub........
I havn't got a digi camera so got no pics but live in p'boro so anyone local can pop and take a look and lisen and i think it sounds the mutts nuts and for a 10" sub my cerb now gives me a massage as i drive

Is it one of those flip up screens you are looking at?
I have been eyeing the Pioneer AVIC900HVT navigation kit with a flip up screen (www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=4134&taxonomy_id=45-103).
I just don't know how to have it installed to not crash into the overhang over the headunit. Would it be possible to put some kind of spacer behind the aluminium frame around the unit to make it level with the overhang?
Mashie, I've already thought of this problem. I think it's going to need more investigation when I actually buy one. However, there's a guy I work with has one fitted to each of his cars and when the screen comes out of the head unit, there is quite a distance of overhang that may be enough to clear the top of the dashboard. Also, the screens have an adjustable tilt angle which may overcome the problem. Failing that, it's as you said, a new extension to the radio surround would be required. I would like to think of this as a last option though. The only thing I am not too sure about is having to have the screen mechanism repaired every now and then as the guy at work has had this occur on both of the his (approx £40 a time to repair).
Hope this helps.

Guys,
If anyone is considering purchasing the Pioneer Avic flip screen then email me offline because I am selling my car soon and want to sell my audio system seperately. It is only 4 months old. Still have boxes and receipts.
The 'best' speaker system to fit into a cerbie, considering the restricted dimensions is 'Focal'. Spent along time testing everything else. You will also need an amp to get the true power potential.

Don't waste your money on a sound system! Just sit back and here the beast roar. When I had my Cerby I just loved to listen to the engine, there is nothing like passing some dingbat in his little mx-5 with his top down looking simply as if he is shitting it, because your car is spewing out sounds like a dog howl that gaurds the gates of hell.
