I am toying with the idea of removing the aircon from my 4.5, to release space, weight and most importantly air flow to the radiator.

Whilst driving my Cerb since owning it, I have only used it on 1 or 2 occasions when the weather was really hot. And even then it was just to keep my feet cool, as the windows are ALWAYS open, for obvious reasons.

The question is, how much will it affect the reslae value and ease of selling come sell up time? If I ever sell her that is...

Cheers

I have been toying with that idea for over a year now. Also worried about resale, though have no intention of selling.

You go first, I'll follow.

(if only the air con would stop working - it'd be the perfect excuse).

I have the original invoice for my car and in 1998 factory air con cost £1595.74 + VAT
Which = £1875. What's that today?

Having driven to Le Mans twice this year, the air con helps a lot (although mine is not what I'd call cold!)

It's a selling point, so perhaps £500 on a good car.

BUT my car does not have any problems with cooling and hold 85DegC when moving and aircon on.

Do you need to sort the cooling out???
I cleaned the front of the rads with engine cleaner as they were a bit gummed up. Oil cooler also.

Sitting in traffic it does get a bit warm, but as you say windows are normally fully open then so not a problem to just switch it off until going again.

Don't forget is also cools the fuel line!!

Could you not remove the unit and blank off the necessary. If you sell the car you could always sell the bits with the car / as extras / or fleabay

Having just bought a 4.5 (with aircon) it was on my list of options I would prefer to have rather than an essential. I'd have bought a good condition, well looked after car without A/C over a lesser one with A/C every time.

Now I've lived with the car for a couple of months and 1k miles I would still apply the samce criteria if buying again. I'd only go for aircon if it was the only difference between two very similar condition cars. So far I prefer it with the windows open rather than closed with cooling.

If you are prepared to go to the trouble of removing the components, why not just keep them to refit if the mad desire to part with the beast ever takes over rational thought?

Tom.

I guess there will be varied opinions on this.

I'm quite a cold blooded person. In that my car with climate control used to be set to 18C, I like rooves off, sunrooves open, windows open and the like.

My cerbs aircon is poor, so I don't bother wth it and I simply don't care as the car is just fantastic.

If it were a car like a Jag, I would expect it not only to work, but to be very good.

Just my opinion.

No, not at all. Just Cerbs seem to run hot anyway, so I thought every little bit of help for cooling would be beneficial.

I am in the middle of a restoration, and everything from the gearbox forward is out. The last thing was the aircon rad, which was fubar.
I have already made a trip to Kempston to have my main rad renewed, and not sure if I can be bothered to go back again to have this one done.

What is the aircon rad out of? Is it a TVR own made item?

Thanks for all the replies so far chaps.

if its fubar anyway then I'd leave it out.

I'd be careful making that decision. Deciding to leave it out for the moment but possibly put it back for selling won't work. The little rubber orings in all the pipework you're leaving in the car will fubar without regular use of the airconditioning system.
Aircon should be switched on at least once a week to keep the seal lubricated and stop them perishing even in winter.

Are replacement ones very expensive? Anyone had one done?

Go on a diet for 2 weeks. You'll lose the same in weight as the air con and your car will still be worth more than without it...

back when you could actually buy a new cerb, most dealers would reccomend a/c as essential for resale not to mention helping keep the interior temperature cooler. I doubt there is that many cerbs out there without a/c!

true, but plenty without working A/c. I'd wager.
