Has any one got an act exhaust, do you have any pics of them and what are they like? my exhaust has decided it no longer wants to be attached to the car so time for a new one. Dont suppose any one is selling a used exhaust at the moment?

I have an ACT system on order so should know how good they are in about a weeks time.

My old sports rears and mid section will be surplus to requirements.

My new ACT arrived yesterday. All looking very shiney, although at the moment it's only decorating my bedroom floor. I went for a system with removable tails, and slim trackday silencers, so I can get under the magic 100db without any external protrusions. I must say the new slim TD cans are sexy as hell with a 3.5" (I think) slash-cut finish, and from a visual point of view I'd be happy with then permenantly fitted.

That leaves my current TD cans redundant, so if you need a set of those make me an offer.

Various bits of my old sports system are also perfectly servicable, so if you're anywhere near Edinburgh, you'd be more than welcome to do some mixing and matching with your system.

Depends which one you go for as they do various types. I went for the decatted system with silencing in the straight pipes plus silencing in the tails, then with additional trackday silencers to bolt on. I'd have liked to go for the same system as Nefarious but this had the best chance of being quietest as at the time it was assumed I had a noisy car.

So mine looks like this:

Hum - git! biggrin Makes me think I should have got your system? Looks very nice although I thought the older system I saw at Brands had bolt on tails, not slip on.

Neil, what cans came off your car that are now surplus? Were they sports exhausts, or standard back box?
I may be interested if sports..

Dave: I don't see any reason why you couldn't retro-fit those cans - just chop your tails 3" in front of the chrome bits and either get somebody to flare out the pipes, or just weld on a slightly oversized piece to make them easily swappable.

Harry: The union is 2 1/2" inside bore, a little bit more for the outside pipe (haven't actually measured, though).

Caluceus: The cans I meant that are surplus are the extra bolt-on track-day ones - designed for the standard 2 1/2" tails. They're absolutely brand new - I bolted them on in the Ring car park, pulled up to the barriers and got told to take them off. So total mileage of about 50 feet!

The normal sports back-boxes are servicable, but have been knocked about a bit, and have been repaired with my own slightly-less-than-pretty welding, but you're welcome to them if you've got a use for them, and can collect from Edinburgh

Thanks Neil, but I'm not local, and after a decent set. Thanks for the kind offer though.

Can you still buy sports pipes new now?

Not sure we're necessarily talking about the same thing. The Rear sections shown in Dave's pics are what I'm calling "Sports" tails (well, my old ones are *slightly* smaller rear boxes). If you mean the same thing (or even if you don't!), phone Tim @ ACT and he'll sort out pretty much whatever you need. Nice guy too (I know he reads the threads on here!).

Byker have you fitted your system yet?
If so what db does it put out?
Is it below 100db all the time??

Brand new fitted just before I went on holiday and it was 107db at 4.5K revs, but with a decent low throaty noise and still popping and banging. With the additional trackday silencers on it was 98db. I guess it might quieten down a little as it's used/coked but I've not had any time yet to put many miles on it.

It's also lighter than my previous system and doesn't hang down so much so I've been able to drop the car again.

The centre section has broke and the left silencer rattles so it would be every thing from the cats back

Store, what sort of condition is your old system in? have you any pics?

I have an ACT sports system, but it's for a 4.5 and I see a 4.2 in your profile. If there's part of it that's of use to you I'm sure we can work something out. The system is at Austec at the moment.

Steve.

Many Thanks Dave.

Looks like the one for me!
Now on my list of things to do.

Been told mine is a Blue-flame without the baffles in!
Would probably suite a "Younger" person" hehe

I will hopefully have the old system off tomorrow and can take some photos then. If you drop me a PM with your email address I will take some photos and email them to you.

Don't know how to do photos on here.

Update - At Castle Coombe on Friday it measured 107db at 4.5K revs without the trackday silencers, 99db with them, but lots of people were saying the readings were higher than they'd had before.

But I'm happy - I've a system now I can get onto trackdays with.

Absolute result. As loud as you can get away with while still getting onto TDs. I hope mine performs similarly.
Starter motor problems, the servicing needs of the other cars and personal injury (walking into the garage door and knocking myself cold!) have delayed the fitting of mine until next weekend
