prototype ecu...

Whilst reading through some orginal invoices on my cerb i noticed that about a month of two from new it went back to the factory and had an £1000 option of a prototype ecu!!
has anyone else had this fitted? or have this on there invoices?? also further on down the line the cerb looked like it was having issue with the AC being knocked out, and it was down to this ECU i quote "the ecu has clearly been tampered with and appears to be non standard.." this was at a tvr specailist,
they sent it to factory and they then replaced it for a standard one!
anyone from the factory shed any light?!

I dont know but the only other cerb i've ever seen with an odd ecu is the one in itsallyellow's road car which had the serial port set into the outer casing so you didn't have to remove the cover to access it. really handy for remapping so I wondered if that was a factory mapping ecu or just something MBE had kicking around to get TVR out of trouble. Never seen another like it so suggests it's either a one-off in a cerb or very very few cars with that ecu. The mapping was standard 4.5 though so if it had been an ECU for remapping they'd put std chipset back in when the car was sold.
Intrigued by your car going back to have another ecu fitted though, especially as the ecu does nothing special for the aircon except earth one wire out, it has no control over the aircon on either revs or throttle despite what some people will tell you .. there is a 2d map for controlling the aircon but it's all filled in so is effectively disabled except to always have the aircon request switched on whilstever the ecu is powered up.
