Any advice please.

Nearside manifold has developed a nice hole on the top of where the front and rear pipes meet and sweep under the engine.

Presumably I can either get them removed, welded and refitted (any idea on labour cost?) or replace (and that doesn't look cheap !!).

If anyone who has been there and done that would care to enlighten me I'd be most grateful.

cheers

How was the trip home on Sunday? Not too deafening I hope!

Can you post a pic of where the hole is - I was going to ask you to show me before you left - but we didnt see you go. From what you said I should think you could get it welded.

thanks for the advice; I've tried to take a picture but not getting a decent shot.

based on the above I'm going to take it to my local spanner man this afternoon, remove the airbox (again!) and see what he thinks.

He mentioned some "fiberglass putty" or he can weld if he can get to it, so fingers crossed it's a cheap fix until such time as the engine comes out.

thanks again

Mike

(and a cracking Cerb you've got there Peter)

Advice from my local mechanic is that it can't be welded in situ (the front and rear pipes, which are under the 2nd and 3rd pipes) so looks like it's a remove, weld (or replace) and refit; ouch !!

stuck a bit of gun-gum on there and need to wrap some tape around it, in the hope it'll get me out on Sunday, then it'll be off somewhere for a proper fix.

Don't suppose anyone knows of any 'old' manifolds lying around in the back of a garage ??

I suspect if you manage to get any 'old' manifolds from somewhere, you be back in the same position in a years time.
Best whip them out, cleaned up/shot blasted, and tig welded by a decent welder. Or splash out on some new ones. Depends how long you're keeping it for I guess.

I've had mine blasted and welded, and going to further weld some webbing on them too. But I'll be having to shell out for a new set in a few years time anyway, so just putting off the inevitable. But I'm doing so much to mine at the moment, I need money in other areas, so not forking out for new ones just yet.

Hope you get it sorted.

I think that sums it up nicely; I guess I'm hanging in there for an "engine refresh".
