I’m specking a new car, Cerbera 4.5 LW Red Rose and the Close Ratio Gearbox. Does anyone here have one? If so I would like to hear your comments please.

Should I or should I not go for it, what are the pros and cons?

Thx in advance.

Go for it. I test drove a RR with a CRG before I bought mine and it was the nuts. That's what I'm getting next year. Not sure what the pro's are for the CRG on the road compared to the normal box though but would of thought a must for trackdays.

Chap on PH called WASHY has one and definitely recommends it.

I'm very jealous.

Yite - Go for it! I think the standard 'box may be a little under geared for the kind of output I'm getting from my RR. First is very long though and can make getting off the line in a hurry a little more tricky than the standard car. After that it's a hoot, almost 100mph in second, 125 in third. A must if you're going to do any track days.

Would it help if I paid a visit to the mid Essex meet this weekend?!

Did you have yours fitted Washy?

If it's not a rude question, at what sort of cost?

Go create some weather...

Neil, now you're getting me going. Come down chap, it would be great to see you and the beast and don't leave me the keys or you'll end up back with your old car

Would be good to see two identical Cerbs, even if it's only from the outside.

Problem is, I know I'll be ordering my new one next week..... hold on, why's that a problem??!!

Graham - it was an optional extra @ £1,560. Only really worth it with the RR 4.5 IMHO. I imagine the gearing would be a bit long for a standard car. I could be wrong though.

BigT see you Sunday.

Spoke to Gavin Beach (ext. 3031) regarding the Close Ratio Gearbox.

I spoke to the factory today (the guy how designed it) and I was told the following:-

The shift quality is much better.

1st is half way between 1st and 2nd

2nd & 3rd are similarly spaced which gives less of a rev drop between gears.

4th & 5th are the same

Gear ratios:
Close Ratio
1st 2.95 : 1
2nd 1.94 : 1
3rd 1.34 : 1
4th 1 : 1
5th .8 : 1

Normal
1st 2.43 : 1
2nd 1.56 : 1
3rd 1.24 : 1
4th 1 : 1
5th .8 : 1

And it’s a Borg Warner gearbox.

Shift quality certainly is better although I wasn't made aware of this at the time I ordered it so it was a nice surprise. Gear changes are very fast and very solid. None of this stick in a bucket nonsense you get in some other sports cars.
