Picked up my Cerbera yesterday and what a fantastic machine it is to drive! However i do have a few worries/questions as this is my first Cerbera and first TVR! I know on start up from cold they rattle a bit but how much noise is to be expected? Once warm it still sounds like 1 tappet is still noisy. The valves had a re shim 5k ago as i have the recipet in the service history. What oil pressure should i see on tickover and at different RPM at cold and when warm? When i take up drive quickly i get i kind of knock from the rear end as if there is play in the diff. This could be a bush or something, is there any known parts that wear that could cause this? i.e. Diff mounting? It has the upgraded front end. Not sure who did the conversion but do they all use the same lights. I think they are Hella units, what size/type of bulb do they take? As i want to upgrade them to HID Xenon's. Is there any way of making the handbrake work better? There are more things but i cant think of them at the moment so i will post them on here later. Any advice would be much appreciated as i'm at the start of what a hope to be a long TVR ownership! Best Regards, Guy.

I don't have a Cerb but I can tell you that all the handbrakes on TVRs are rubbish. If you leave it parked on a hill then leave it in gear as well as pulling the handbrake leaver with 2 hands smile

Oh they do rattle when cold, its not valve gear its the pistons being a bit slack in the bore when cold! My oil pressure is 70/75 cold tick over down to about 40psi hot tickover, if yours is low it will probably be the relief valve spring that needs changing, the go week over time.
The knock at the back is probably the diff bushes as you say, you can get Powerflex ones as replacements.
The speed six headlight bulbs are H7's but are awkward to get to through the hole in the inner wing, after taking the wheels off!
The handbrake can be made a lot better by stripping them down and giving them a good clean, lubricate everything that needs it and keeping them well adjusted.
Enjoy cerbera ownership it is one all on its own smile

Thanx for the replys gents! Right first of all its a Cerbera 99 Speed 6. Am quite concerned about the oil pressure as i'm only seeing 40 at high revs when hot! On tickover the needle drops right down! Maybe below 10? Where can i get the relief spring where abouts on the engine is it located and is it easy to fit? Where abouts is the best place to get the bushes and what are they like to fit? I do have a "man" that i sometimes use to do work on my cars but however much i trust him i would rather do things myself as i believe no one takes as much case as yourself when working on a P&J. Another guestion i forgot to mention is that i have 3 Fobs but only two of them work. Changed round batterys and no joy. Dose anyone know how to re-code a fob? Regards, Guy.

Maybe post about your oil pressure stuff on the speed 6 forum - you might get a quicker response smile

Speed Sixes do run VERY low pressure at idle I believe, don't compare with AJP8 readings as you'll give yourself a heart attack hehe Do however post on the S6 forum also (or do a search on there) as I am not sure what the upper and lower limits should be.

Carl Baker for any alarm/fob issues yes

Idle should be set around 950 RPM, and if oil pressure is around 10psi your OK, so don't panic! Gauges can be pretty poor, but 40 psi on hot engine is not too dreadfull, but you need to check the oil level, (easier said than done.)

Spend some time going through the speed six forum for all engine issues, but again don't panic, the nature of the forum is such that it is not full of cheer. Get the car checked out by a reputable specialist (if 5k since tappet shims sounds like due a service anyway)

Then once you are up to speed in knowledge and have completed the health check, all that remains is to enjoy it.

Welcome by the way

oil pressure rough guide is 10 psi per 1000 rpm when hot on a speed6. So 10 at hot idle is normal.

Oh thank god for that! Lol! Heart attack avoided! Thanks alot for that guys. This is such a thriving TVR community you've got here. I feel honored to be a part of it! I like how i got the same answer from a few of you as it really put my mind it ease! Went out in it yesterday and it was a little higher than i'd first thought anyway. Just that whilst looking for the right one i'd been out in 4.2's with 70PSI and assumed this normal. How do i get in touch with that alarm guy and will he mind me contacting him directly? I'm thinking i'll be better posting my different problems on seperate threads with corresponding titles in future as people in the know will see exactly what its about. Thanks again lads! :-)

Welcome to the fold Guy. Love the Puma in your profile! Its how Ford should have released the racing puma.

Also good to see another engineer coming into the Cerbera community, as we already have a couple. I see more development of this fine marque on the horizon smile

I get around 55 psi when cold and 45psi @ 4K revs when warmed up. Idle is around 1,000-1,200 on my S6 (now at 37,000 miles). I've added a digital dial, so the readings are more accurate than the regular TVR one.

You should also look at the oil you are using. I was using Mobil 1 0W40 until 30,000 miles after which I changed to Motul 5W40.

Yep the 4.2s and 4.5s are V8s and have a different oil system (not dry sump) and run higher oil pressures. the 4.2 you were in sounds typical for a 4.2 with a working oil pressure relief spring ( a favourite thing to go weak)
