The battery light came on in the car and when it was checked the alternator was not charging the battery. However when driving home the battery warning light went out indicating the battery was charging.

Can the alternator be fixed or is it best just to replace it?

And finally what car is the cerb alternator off?

Cheers chaps.

When replacement alternators are upwards of £160+, its probably more economical to get it off and take it to an auto electrician. I did the same on my old MR2, cost me £40 for an inspection and new bushes.

Your problem sounds like a typical big fuses problem!

Check that first i.e take it of and clean contacts etc!

Much cheaper than a new alterntor!

Just had mine reconditioned and new belt and it did not cure it. Guess what it was. The oil pressure warning light and the alternator light on the dash were the wrong way round, so it was the oil pressure light that was on. It was cured by a new switch somewhere...£10. I think the lights were wired up wrong in the first place. Dont you love TVR's.

Spoke to Matt at Sebring and he suggested big fuse as well. I took it out and it was broken so have replaced it along with a new holder which should hopefully cure the problem!

Thanks for the replies!
