4.5 Vs 360 Spider
Discussion
For light interest purposes only.
A 360 Spider came storming up behind me this weekend, with all the accessories i.e. platinum blond passenger. My car is a standard 1998 4.5.
Just after this we both entered a piece of dual carriageway and as I don't see many 360's I was interested to compare acceleration in the real world. Bottom line was we were pretty well matched and he couldn’t get past until I backed off. Thereafter he was easy to tail.
It only lasted a few seconds but made my weekend. Probably didn’t make his since there’s about £100k difference in the price of our cars.

sounds to me like you had better get your engine seen to
, my mate's 360 doesn't have a prayer over 100mph
A 550M, on the other hand matched me exactly from 100mph(ish) to 150mph on the autobahn recently.. until I did it again in 4th.
I'd like to say he was a speck in my rear view mirror but I'd be lying - there was a significant and widening gap however.
All highly irresponsible and childish, I know but then whats the point in having the car?

I never had a comparision like that, I always had bikers trying it on.
Not sure what kind of bikes you’ve had trying it on, but at around 2.5-3.5 seconds 0-60mph for many sports bikes, the Cerb will get left behind (in a straight line). If you have the road/bottle, then you'll get most, if not all, bikes back on top speed as even the most extreme of sports bikes are typically limited to somewhere around 170(ish)mph
Acceleration and top speed are of course less relevant if a bike is trying to get past your Cerb on the twisties as the Cerb will hug the corners better and you'll be able to make more progress than the bike.
The dog and i had a similar experience with a 360 when we were out hunting in our cerbies..... he could not leave us and due to traffic we could not overtake....
There is a huge gap in cost i quite agree and if you want the faster car it is a cerb no question....
However, that extra money does go somewhere trust me
When he hit the brakes hard he stopped dead quick in a straight line - unlike us - we looked like spitfires breaking right and left and clenching our ass cheeks ....
I guarantee that a standard cerb (even in red rose guise) will not keep up with a modena thru the twists and turns...it will be outhandled...and left for dust....you would be amazed how they handle....on the straights the cerbie would be gone - i only have a 355 but round the twists the cerbies were struggling on the way to Le Mans......depends what you want out of a car - jeez if i had more money than sense i would definnitely add a cerbie back in my garage....just not yet !!!!! (fingers crossed for lottery win)....

Understand what you say here gixxer but not my experience in the real world. I have a TVR 4.5 2000 and a 2000 R1. I was on the bike and my father in the car. The bike on paper has a good advantage but over six or eight attempts I was unable to leave the TVR. Rear wheel of the R1 was getting mighty weavy off the line and he nearly hit me up the rear for every corner.
Brighton speed trials proved that a very tired (in need of service - you can feel the difference in acceleration) 4.5 was quicker than an F360 spider. The rarri was quicker off the line though, most cars were - still, nice to see the old Cerb still has it. Incidentally, the super Rarris - F40 and F50 were absolutely
ing awesome. I strongly urge anyone that can afford an F40 to buy one NOW!!!
Have to agree about the handling though, standard Cerberas are particularily nervous in corners - as are most TVR's with the exception of the Tamora onwards...
What people also miss in the costs is that a TVR depretiates, most of the used Rarris simply wont. This helps to bring the costs of running it down and justifying the original price. With the right exhaust on they can even sound quite good - Frasers 355 sounded incredible at Le Shuttle a few months back...
Anyway - F40, beyond TVR grunt with unrivalled presense and a sound to die for. I NEED ONE!!!!!!

Ducati 748's and 916/993's mainly and the 0-60 times were not applicable as it wasn't from a standing start, often coming off of roundabouts onto dual carridgeways.
I don't doubt it guys, and I think this sort of stuff is all very subjective and indeed relative (i.e. with many variables like rider/driver skill, road and weather condition, specific car/bike condition, tyres, etc etc etc). I am sure that given the right mix of the above variables one person will rightfully quote having burned off a supersports bike in a Cerbera, and vice versa.
Subjectively, I feel able to accelerate faster on my GSXR than I can do in my 4.5 Cerbera - but then being exposed to the elements on a bike makes a CB500 feel it would beat a 360 Modena!

Er....yes but not once have I said I've beaten a Ducati. I've said they tried it on, as in playing and I always duly oblidged. After a nod of heads we then went our seperate ways. I guess other than another bike we are the next best option.
Besides the bikes would always lose any gap they have made through the corners or under braking.

Hmm depreciation.
When your car is only half the price of a Ferrari to start with then its not a problem but you look at the 456 for example, HUGE depreciation, even an F355 can be picked up for £50,000, the point is that a 360 is not 60-70 k better than a Cerb in the real world. Especially as by the time you've added nitrons and AP discs the difference round the twists is even less. You are merely paying for the exclusive rights to one of the best know world brands. And there V8's sound rubbish unless there at full chat and have sports zorst fitted.
Still luv Ferraris though, if the lottery comes up on Saturday you can bet there'll be prancing horse in the garage.

Absolutely. I only have the reactions of a human being and when my R1 starts to twitch at the rear on acceleration I tend to woose out, rather than find out just how inadequate I am as a driver.
I'm happy to spin rear wheels on the TVR when overcooked but very rarely do it on the bike.
TVRs are fast (especially the cerb) but they are not that stunning. I quickly got used to my cerbie and it felt really slow after about 2 years.
I reckon most super bikes could have had me below 120mph but I had a lot more confidence under cornering/braking.
Also at very high speeds the 360 will leave the cerb unless it is dead straight/flat because it generates downforce and gives the pilot a lot more confidence. The cerb generates lift at gets very floaty above 160, not that I ever tried
As Fraser said, the extra money does go somewhere and it ain't just on the styling/image.

I agree about the pulling left/right under hard breaking. And the 360 did look very stable whilst cornering at speed.
Given the cash I would still buy a 360 or even better a F40! The F40 makes better financial sense as they are holding their value and may be even appreciating a little over the past 12 months.

That be all true but its a case of having your cake or eating it. F's do provide better downforce at high speed cos of their bodywork etc but only at the expense of the straight line speed. Creating that downforce is taking bhp straight out of their engines.
Picked up my new TVR (2001) a couple of weeks back. Had to fly down to Heathrow and pick it up from a chap in Windsor to drive it back to Edinburgh. As soon as I hit the M25 i saw my first Lambo Murcielago(yellow) who pulled up next to me on the outside lane. A 360 modena pulled up on the inside lane. Not that I was used to the car or anything but everyone new what was going to happen. I've got a speed six by the way. We we're all doing about 70 and floored it. We'll Im presuming they both floored it anyway. THe lambo and TVR were neck and neck a good stretch of the way, the 360 modena was toasted. He then went flying past when we slowed down. Was quite suprised he didnt have the power.
Was smiling all the way up the road to Edinburgh. The man in the Lambo gave me a wee wave as well! One day!

Feraris dont depreciate!?!?
Have you tried selling a ferrari privately? Not many people with £70K to spare will buy privately.
Just cos the dealers have the cars for sale at prices that suggest depreciation is low doesnt mean that when you come to sell that you will not lose a packet. You will.
