I replaced the clutch, slave cylinder and the master cylinder about a month ago. I have the following symptoms that I just cannot resolve:

When the car is cold the clutch is fine, with a biting point low down the pedal travel. When the car is warmed up the biting point rises to the top of the pedal and it starts to slip on hard acceleration. At this point, I stop and undo the clutch bleed screw, fluid shoots out like it is under pressure, tighten the bleed screw and the clutch then returns to normal.

This happens each time I go out. My initial thoughts were air in the system, but I made sure the slave bleed holes were 12 and 6 o'clock and the system was bled using the suction system attached to a compressor and used nearly a litre of fluid to make sure!

The clutch and slave came from Clever Trevor, could the new Master Cylinder cause such symptoms? It's like too much fluid is getting into the system and then needs venting.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, although I can use the car it is a bit inconvenient and my wife would hate it if I had to stop to bleed it!

Did the clutch slave cylinder match the old one? 2 different lengths

Is the pipe that feeds the slave from the master seated ok / sealed at the master cylinder?

Sounds as if the slave is sticking from your descritiption

The slave cylinder is the right one and there isn't any leaking from the Master Cylinder connection.

The sticking slave would make sense. I can see why that would cause the system to pull in more fuid, but of course it is quite difficult to check! I've done about 500 miles since fitting it, so would hope it would 'free up' at some point

this sounds like a master cylinder problem .. when teh pedal is released it sounds like there is still pressure in the system because the recuperating valve in the end of the master cylinder isnt being allowed to open to release pressure back into the reservoir. master cyl would be my first port of call there

Thanks, I don't mind changing the master cylinder! I've still got the old that was leaking a bit and the new one which is on the car at the moment.

How do they come apart? I took the circlip out which released the shaft, but then couldn't see how to get the next bit out that the shaft pushes against. It seemed to be hitting against something solid and not coming out!

There's no solid stop other than the circlip, quite often you can 'ping' the piston out by pushing it fully in and letting it snap back.
Otherwise some air pressure through the reservoir inlet may do it

also the piston that you see is steel so a powerful magnet on an extending arm works really well smile as matt says pushing it in against it's spring and letting it fly back out also works smile

That must have been it! I rebuilt the original master cylinder with the seals from the new one and put that one back on. The new one looked ok, but now my clutch is working perfectly!

Thank goodness I didn't take it all apart to check the slave!
