Yea suspension all done already there is a big price difference between Austec and Trackcar? Any ideas why, main thing is the induction kit nearly three hundred pounds?? Austec is the most expensive
The reason is that the kits are not alike, the ACT system has replacement carbon fibre back plates with integral trumpets. greenm said:
Mmm "what" is right, So the carbon boxes I have would be reduntant or do they fit a new front plate and tubes? What is the diffference between one kit at 650 to 700 and the others at 365 both in looks and preformance as long as they are both chiped or tuned to the ECU??
As Steve has rightly said the ACT kit includes replacing the back plates on your existing air boxes. These back plates have slightly smaller diameter trumpets to match the saller diameter ACT Induction Pipes. If your back plats are knackered then this is a sensible option, it is also nice bit of kit.The Whirlwind Inducion pipes are pipes only, they differ from the ACT pipes in that they are designed to fit your existing trumpets on your back plate, they therefore are of a wider diameter at this point in the pipe than the ACT equivalent and then taper into the narrower diameter at the opposite end of the pipe, the shape also accomodates a twist to allow perfect fitment from on end to the other.
If you were holding the two pipes in your hand then you would easily notice this. The ACT pipe although narrower at the back plate end doesn't really suffer because of this, as the new trumpets that come with the back plate accomodates the tapering effect.
From a fitting perspective then the Whirlwind pipes are a piece of cake, if you call Joolz at Track Car Solutions then I believe he can also supply you with a replacement chip for your ECU to accomodate the fueling / air flow changes that the pipes cause. Just changing the pipes alone will not cause major running issues, but the addition of the chip is recommeded as it recovers the lost torque, increases the power your car will have naturally gained and smooths out the curves. Best however for full gains (380-400bhp) be would be to have the car mapped, but the options are a plenty.
Hope this helps,
Jules.

Hi looking to get my Cerb 4.5LW upgraded with a Bespoke rolling road remap and a short induction kit. I live near Oxford were would you go that knows TVR's and is not too far?
If you are in Oxford then TopCats is a great TVR specialist but they don't have a rolling road and AFAIK can't remap the MBE ecu (there aren't many that can).As regards the differences between the ACT kit and the Trackcar one cyclone has already covered this. It seems, from what I have read, that both kits produce largely similar results with the variations in BHP more likely to be down to differences between individual cars.
FWIW I have the ACT kit and it seems to do the job fine. Topcats can certainly help with the fitting of the kit and general setup of the car, but your options for a re-map are limited.
Hope this helps.
Thanks all great info although totally confused as dont really want to change the car to much from standard just want it smoother and think there are plenty of unleashed horses under the bonnet already, would you agree to keep it simple if I just went for the new whirlwind hoses with chip and a general tune I would be going the right way without spending a fortune? The car is already well set up with new Ohlin suspension, decatted, sport exaust?

Yep. Make sure its somewhere that knows thier ecu stuff/ has an RR... like suspension, the kit is only as good as the set up.

In short yes, you would see an improvement over standard. BUT if you wanted to maximise power and smoothness (and remember you're well over half way costwise just buying the pipes and chip), then it would be better to get the car 'live mapped', eg bespoke to your actual engine rather than a generic (but still improved) map

I've been paying lot's of attention to these forums, but still can't see what routes are best to take.
Emeralds, MBE etc etc. Is there a simple guide to each of these? Pros/Cons?
Cheers DB
As you may have gathered by now Clint, Im not the most technical owner, but, as I understand it, Trackcar's chip has been created by a very knowledgable Cerb chap (Joo), and therefore his generic chip would be very good, and will cover all the bases, but as has been proven, each AJP is all but unique, so live mapping by Trackcar or Austec would make the map unique to each engine (even if its just a little bit here and there), so to maximise, it is best to live map to suit the slightly different characteristics.
At least, thats my (limited) understanding of how it all works.

I thought that would be the case, i've read many of trackcar's posts with interest (amongst many others) seems like the generic map would be worth a pop - with the short induction, but perhaps saving that extra for the live map is worth the extra effort. At least, thats my (limited) understanding of how it all works.

We've run standard, with generic and with properly mapped/whirlwind.
Standard wasnt too great, far too lumpy at low revs. Generic was much better at low revs but occaisionally slightly hesitant at certain revs - still less so than standard though, a vast improvement. Properly mapped with whirlwind has given the car a throttle that is smooooooooooooth as say our Audi A4 cabrio - except that the throttle is much more immediate, the resulting acceleration ridiculously violent and somehow the car is better on fuel??
Honestly, if you can stretch to the works - do it... the generic chip is very good - the full kit is Ferrari F40 humbling in terms of pace and audi rivalling in terms of fuelling smoothness.
