Another thread has got me thinking (it happens sometimes).
TVR claimed 0 to 60 for a 4.5 Cerbera of 3.9 seconds.
Have any of you chaps out there tested your Cerbera recently on accurate equipment?
It would be interesting to know what a 420bhp (claimed bhp in TVR figures) will actually do and also what a "normal" 375bhp 4.5 can manage.
As at Fighting Torque, wheel spin must be the biggest problem for a fast time.

Think he managed a 4.0 dead to 60 and a 0-100 in a very impressive 8.6. Mind you his is a 440bhp RR so will be quicker than most - Having said that traction is the killer, Autocar seemingly got 4.0 dead out of the early 4.2 press car so maybe, to 60 at least, the power difference between all our cars is actually close to irrelevant as just means you feather the throttle even more, 0-100 (and beyond) is where the bigger hp boys start to show their mettle.

So what you are saying, at least to 60, is that all us with 4.2's dont need to spend loads on remaps etc...because they are already as quick as the red roses/4.5's. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

In real life the 4.2 is just as quick as the 4.5. We've all been brain washed, normally people dont want the Golf 1.8, they want the 2 Litre. a 3 litre Bee Em, Nah, I want the 3.5 litre one etc etc.
Mine is a 4.5 406hp one - so in the pub I can brag that I have a bigger engine than yours, and 50hp more, and thats about it really. Out on our congested roads that extra power is irerlevant and never used. Maybe one day if we went to a deserted airstrip, and both of us managed a perfect start, and didn't fluff any gear changes, then my car would probably edge ahead of yours slightly, and pull stronger once we got over 130mph. If that really bothers you, and gives you sleepless nights, then sell the 4.2, buy a 4.5, and spend £2K on a re-map and a good exhaust system.

Reel em in. Alan...it was a little jovial banter.

.A good way of getting you 0-60 time up is to change your crown and pinion rating from a 3.45 ratio to a 3.75 or higher. Down side is you will loose top end.
Also, getting rid of Hydratrak and fitting the Quaife ATB LSD is worthwhile.
Also, noticed that Steve Heath and Silverstone Performance are offering aftermarket fitting of race logic traction control systems now, thats goto be a help on a fast launch

.One thing I didnt mention, mine has the added advantage of red calipers.

Joking apart. If there was a bigger difference bewtween both cars, then I think I would have upgraded to a 4.5. And when all said and done, they are both fooooking quick.

Real world is what we want. Most of us don't have tarmac like Santa Pod.
My guess, a standard 4.5 (or 4.2 for that matter) will be near 5.0 seconds to 60 on ordinary dry (if we ever get any) tarmac.
5 seconds. I disagree. Although I aint tested mine, but as mentioned above, didnt the press car do 4 seconds dead, and on a standard car!! Real world is what we want. Most of us don't have tarmac like Santa Pod.

Being old and cynical I never believe manufacturers figures. They have a long history of tweaking press demonstrators (the E Type Jaguar being a famous case) and you may depend the car(s) used to set the brochure figures was in the "best of health".
Anyway, any standard car will probably be 10 years old now.

I've got an accelerometer that's fairly accurate. Best I had was 4.4 secs for 0-60 but I'm regularly nearer 4.8. Still blooming quick for a car. Didn't want to wreak the clutch though so haven't repeated it recently. I'm just a little nervous now on my 35K mile original clutch Real world is what we want. I managed a 2.8 on the bike but had real trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground
