Hello everyone I'm looking at getting a divorce pretty soon and will be able to get rid of the MGF (compromise) and get what I really want.

Ive searched on here for a buyers guide with all the normal info like servicing schedule and likely costs but cant find one. Can someone post a link or give me a quick heads up please.

I'm looking at buying a Cerbera and would like to pay between £8,000 - £12,000. I don't really know what the running costs are like. I'm expecting about £3,000 a year in maintenance and I have had a quote for £1,200 on the insurance, an SP10 has pushed that up by £200. I'm sure I can do better though. Is there a right/wrong time of year to buy a Cerb like there is with MG's (Yes I know - you should never buy an MG!). I have a local TVR dealer but don't entirely trust or like him so I'd like to hear what you guys say.

Cheers Ben

Never a right or wrong time to buy a Cerbera. But its a buyers market out there at the moment.Check the general condition, paper work etc.But pay particular attention to the chassis. Its seems the older Cerbs fare better in this dept, than the later ones.

Fine. I like purple smile I have been reading some other reviews on the T'internet that are not encouraging. They aren't written by enthusiastic owners and are quite dated. I'm prepared for trouble with a Cerb, owning an MGF prepares you for that! At least it wont be an hours labour just to look at the poxy engine.

What I would like is honest running costs from real owners.

Ah. I don't like purple that much I'm afraid. I had a Holden VE Commodore whilst out in Oz recently. It was the exact same colour as yours, I just couldnt bring myself to love it. Was a head turner though. Sorry mate.

I'd sell you my purple one, but I fear it might be a few grand above your budget....

Probably. My budget is flexible though, I've just been looking at a few Tuscans just for the hell of it. If I stop smoking, drinking and eating i just might be able to run one.

Hi - a peep in peoples profiles should give you some real info.:
- click on 'Memebers' tab above then 'fleet' then select 'TVR' and in order of 'most history' then take your pick on looking at different owners experiences.

HTH.

PS you don't want to know my costs in 7m of ownership!

Seems the Purple is really not helping it sell.....how's this for an idea, put the price up a little & chuck in a re-spray to the colour of the new buyers choice, the inside looks like it would go with pleanty of other colours! ... Just an idea...

Interesting idea but no. These cars are rare enough. Purple is unique. The colour ensures that this car always gets noticed and surely that's what you want in a tvr. As I've said before Mondeo comes in a lovely shade of bland

With regards to running costs, GBP 3-4,000 a year on servicing/parts/upgrades. Plus what ever it costs for petrol and insurance.

Last year cost me £5k or so, but I had a big service, new cams, p/s rack, p/s pump, clutch, the list goes on, just all things the Cerbs suffer from over time. Its just all mine happend in one year.

This year, so far... Its only cost me Insurance, Petrol and Tax.

After a divorce you will be lucky if you can afford the MGF let alone a Cerbera. eek

Realistically, a Cerbera will cost more than twice as much to run as an MGF and I PERSONALLY think they are not a daily driver (I know others on here run them daily) as winter and salty roads will kill the fun IMO.

I do like the black one. I'm just seperated at the mo and hopefully the divorce remains amicable. I should end up with a fair bit of cash and absolutely no out goings. I'm quite lucky as I can cycle to work so the Cerb would not be a daily driver, it would have to live outside though. The house avec garage is gone for good. Right I'm off to check out some of your profiles as suggested.

Hi Ben

Have a look at my profile and the blog which I've just updated, might give you a rough idea what you could be looking at?
Good luck in your quest anyway

Cheers Keith

Thanks TON thats what I'm after. I think I could handle that. I just need to remember to add "Must have a large vacant garage" on my must have features next time I'm on Match.com .
