RECALL OF 18" CERBERA WHEELS

My 9 month old 4.5 was in last week to fix some minor electrical problems. A cursory call to the dealer to check everything was ready revealed that the engineer had 'noticed' that both front alloys were sporting hairline fractures. Another call to the factory revealed that 'over the last few weeks' this problem has come to light. He said that they were going to be 'shortly' contacting owners (via dealers i assume). They are going to fit tuscan style wheels to affected cars. He did say that it was only to cars that have cracked wheels, but can not imagine that anyone would feel too secure piling into Stowe at 130+ and have the front left collapse / blow out. I'm sure Mr Schumacher would not recommend it either. If anyone else has any more (accurate) info feel free to shoot me down here. There was a moss green Cerbera at Silverstone with Tuscan spider-legs style wheels (parked next to my Griffith with it's Cerbera style wheels!) It looked pretty good I thought. Regards Rich...

Presumably this will effect the early (pre-spider 18" wheeled) Tuscans as well? No wonder TVR have started to 'bow' to early owners requests for free spider upgrades - get a bit of good will when they'd probably have had to recall them anyway!

THE PEARLISED GREEN LIGHTWEIGHT AT SILVERSTONE WAS FROM HENLEY I HAVE SEEN IT ALOT, LOOKS FANTASTIC WITH 18" SPIDER WHEELS.I THINK THEY SHOULD FIT THEM TO 4.5 AS STANDARD.

It's now beginning to look like this isn't an isolated incident - I've just heard of a Tuscan that's had the same problem and had the wheels change FOC. Got a recall from Henley about two weeks ago to get my wheels checked out. Took the car in and it revealed that I have no problems and was able to drive away. I am a bit concerned that the wheels may not be safe though.

Looks like the factory are now writing to all the owners affected to replace the wheels in question. All new Cerberas with 18" wheels are coming through with the new 'spider' wheels.

"We have been made aware by our supplier of a number of 18" wheel castings that may be porous and therefore require inspection" Sounds like TVR don't want to be too alarmist. My "Porous" wheels has at least 2 3cm cracks in each front wheel when the dealer showed them to me.

Had a conversation with Neill Anderson at the Factory today, and this came up as still being an issue. Did many of you ever find cracks? Neill suggested checking inside the rim every 6 months or so, as they are still seeing it occur from time to time. Rich...

Just taken my car for it's first checkup at Racing Green and they informed me that the front wheels both have cracks

They are contacting the factory to find out if these early 18" wheels were officially recalled, but thought i'd ask here to see if anyone has experience of replacing these wheels with the 18" spiders, and whether you had to pay for them to be replaced.

Also, if i do have to pay for the replacements, does anyone know a good place to buy them from? I have been quoted £195+VAT each by Racing Green. Does this sound right?

Its the Racelines RL-7's I think, it was also some time ago

Those look like the ones. I know TVR put out a warning about these in 2001 and many cars had them swapped for spiders, but don't know whether it was an official recall.
