I like my music so I always drive with music blasting out, but I've just had a drive with no music and suddenly noticed I have a very creaky Car, and also a Tick- tick - tick from the rear brake, that stops when I touch the brakes.
Where are the obvious places to check and lubricate to stop the creaking? And will the blob of silicone trick on the back of the rear pads stop the tick-tick-ticking?

PS Sorry about the mundane 'newbie' type post, but the search facility is down at the moment.

Had creaking on my car,its from the rear anti-roll bar bushes, only way to stop it is undo the bushes and lubricate them thoroughly, you can do it without undoing them but it soon returns. Not sure about clicking on brakes though.

So have I and it's a little embarassing when you pull into somewhere. The source of it has yet to be traced but like yours it is silenced briefly by applying the brake pedal. Will watch with interest.

JensenA and Mr M/Colin

The ticking is your rear brake pads rattling in the callipers. Take them out clean them and the calliper then apply a little sil1con to the back of the pad and replace them.

That should stop the rattling.

Thinking about it in you case Colin I am not so sure! Its more like your wallet complaing that you are using the car again!!!

Said with a smile i'd have found that slightly amusing ; however seeing as it wasn't, that's a bit rich coming from you Mr 200 miles a year !

Try pushing down on the car to determine if the creaking is front or rear. Its most likely bush related.
Mine used to creak quite bad, embarrassingly so. Mine was the rubber mounts/spacers (whatever you want to call them) that sit right at the front of the chassis between body and chassis.

Mines making a creaking noise too, over any small bumps at low speads, think its near side rear. Thought it was the exhaust, crawled underneath it tonight, thats as solid as anything! It is getting annoying, everytime someone gets in, they ask .... whats the rattle??

Just had mine serviced, and all the issues I sorted like knocking exhaust, squeaking belts and knocking pads have returned. So annoyingly I have to jack it up again. Pads need doing asap because it can become quite violent. Bringing car home I had to turn off main road and go round the roundabout several time applying the brake until it stopped. Surprised I never made it onto spotted thread as 3 Blue Cerbs on roundabouthehe

Now Mr M/Colin

I think your memory is playing trick's on you! Did I not follow you for over 200 miles to BBWF and back, to stop you from getting lost going around the rounderbouts et. Plus the car is used at least onece a week, so saying I only do 200 miles a year is a bit steep even for you!
You are wright in saying my wallet is complaining, but that is due to the cost of the 350i restoration! Which has properly cost more than your Cerbera!

Now get those brakes sorted! It would only cost you about £5.00 max!
Or do you want Nigel and me to do it for you!!!! (No chance)

When mine sweaked a bit, I bought a can of silicon spray and gave the bushes a dose of it, and the dash creaked now and again, it cured both, it's good for door seals and is claimed to keep rubber in top condition too, rubber comes up great once it has been sprayed, I got it from Halfrauds.

Update - Well the creaks and ssqueaks are still there, but the Brake Pad rattle - (tick, tick, tick) has been cured by applying a thin 'circle' smear of silicone to the back of the pad were the piston touches it.
I don;t know how long this cure will last. The 'ticking' actually comes from the pad moving vertically in the caliper, not horizontally between the piston and the pad. ie The pad, although the recomended Mintex one, seems to be just slighty too small to be a nice snug fit, so perhaps the ticking problems some of us have is down to the make of the pads we use, rather than an inherrent fault of the caliper design.
...Now I need to work out where the creaks and squeaks are coming from scratchchin

I've just finished a bit of Chassis fettling, and finally cured my creaky car. The picture below is 'looking up' at a section of the outrigger. There were a lot of small stones really wedged in tight between the outrigger rail and the car body, and I mean tight! I had to use a big screwdriver to prise the outrigger away from the body and force them out with a hacksaw blade. The car is now much quieter.

The clicking from the rear disc can be corrosion on the outside of the disc, the pads overhang the outside of the rotor, and they catch on the rust. I had this when i fitted new rear pads, a trackday wore my rust off! but you could take a linisher and clean them up.

That's the before picture! It's all been treated and painted now. Like you say it's a st job but something everyone should do. The rest of the chassis is fine but the outriggers seem to take the brunt of the the abuse. I wire brushed, sanded, rust treated and painted them then blasted loads of Waxoyl on the gap. Then sealed the gap at the front of the outriggers. To stop any more water ingress.
