Thanks for your advice on the Cerbera over the past week or so, but sadly after doing the figures, owning one (as a daily driver) would be too much of a financial stretch for me at the moment, so I won’t be getting one unfortunatly, and special thanks to Ian for being kind enough to show me round his and take me for a spin in it
. Please don't think that I have been time wasting etc because I was genuinely interested in owning one, untill I did the maths
.
The Cerbera is definiatly a car I am still interested in, but maybe in a few years time. I guess in the meantime I am going to have to look elsewhere for a replacement to my ST.
Thanks again, always good to know there is lots of good advice around for cars like this.

Sad, but Wise choice. It is a car that requires commitment and deep pockets if its to be used as an everyday car.
If you want a 'Supercar' that you can drive to work every day, in all weathers you can do a lot worse than take a look at the NSX, great car, never goes wrong, and costs about £300 to service!

I never thought of the NSX to be honest, though the insurance on that is going to be astronomical, being a Fast Jap Import (are they all imports?).
Lotus Elise 111R might be worth a look, though at 6' 2" I will look a prat getting in and out of it.

Well a US Import was on my list of cars (4.6L V8 mustang) but I haven't been able to get any reasonable insurance quotes. The Cerb was actually cheaper to insure, which seemed crazy to me. My isurance limit is £1000 I could afford more but I'm not paying that much for insurance. The Cerb was less than £1k with A Manning UK. (A-Plan came out at 2k!!!!).Lotus Elise 111R might be worth a look, though at 6' 2" I will look a prat getting in and out of it.

Just sold my Porsche 928 S4, due to lack of use. Not too pricey to run but some parts are getting scarce, but with a 5 litre 32 valve V8 gives a decent sound track as well. But not as loud as TVR! Best of all they are peanuts to buy at present.
Problem was I couldn't get a child seat to fit in it, so using it at weekends was the problem hence lack of use. The guy who bought mine also has an older 928 which he uses daily.

Bullet proof.Used as an everyday driver, and hasnt cost a penny.Easy maintainance(oil and filter change)and thats basically it.It does every thing i need of it.And if at a later stage you want to mod it,then there are plenty of upgrades for the L.S power unit. The options list is endless. My insurance quote was £435 from Adrian Flux,on a 3000ml policy.Ive since had to upgrade that,as i keep exceeding the mileage.

NSX's aren't imports, they were an official Honda UK car, although like all cars a few were imported. An amazing car to drive, and like the Cerbera a very rare car, and they wont drop a huge amount in depreciation either so your not going to lose a lot. it's Ins Group 20, same as the Cerb.BLUETHUNDER said:

Nissan 350Z is also a good 'every day' car.
If you want sill cheap, fast fun, the forerunner to the 350z is at give away prices these days.
My 1990 twin turbo 300zx has 350bhp (ish) and is a real hoot.
Rear wheel drive and the roof comes off too.
Get one that hasn't been ruined by some chave scum and it's a lovely machine.
Buy one, save up, get a Cerb', go on, you know it makes sense.

I done the same as you, was looking for a cerb, got really excited about one then worked out the costs and it was going to be way too much for me.

luckily I have had a change of job, so i dont have to use a car everyday, just on fridays, so now i have the cerb for weekend use and nice nights (not that there have been many).
If your running an ST (new one i presume?) can you not get a cheap run about and have the cerb as a 'special car' for the weekend?

To be honest if it wasn't for me wanting to keep the ST (bought new in september 2006) in mint condition (with a few paint repairs) and buying some trim panels for it. I would have spent less than a grand on servicing, tyres and tax etc over two years, insurance is £500 per year. Really appart from fuel the ST is peanuts to run.
I just fancy a change, I want a sports car
and a fast accelerating one (top end isn't a huge concern) that I can use as an every day car.Matt
Hi Matt .. this thread is a spooky coincidence. A guy I know , called Matt from yorkshire (well south yorkshire) is changing his ST (with wolf 330hp kit) hopefully for a cerbera as it should be cheaper to run and more reliable than his ST !! so don't discount a cerb just yet as a fellow ST owner is making the same decision right now to make his life less stressful

Hi Matt
I have always had Imprezas between TVR's. I have now had three of each over the years.
I know some people scoff at Imprezas for their image but if you want something that is cheap to buy, bulletproof reliability 26-28 MPG on a run and the fastest/safest way of getting cross country then you could do worse than an Impreza. Having also owned both a Focus ST and a Civic Type R the Impreza will run rings around both of them.
If you want a raw experience then go for a P1 if you want a new shape go for a post 2003 WRX with the Prodrive Performance Pack as this is lower insurance and road tax than an STI just as quick and does not attract the wrong attention. 10k-11k should get you a good version of either.
Just my opinion.

I am guessing the unreliability of that ST will be due to the wolf 330 kit, mine is standard and hasn't had one fault that’s prevented me from driving (a few minor niggles) in 21,000 miles.
Lots of car suggestions here
and plenty of research to do.
As part of my research I have also booked a test drive in an Elise at the nearest dealer to me for next weekend so I'll see how that goes
The 928 is a great looking car and a definite contender now, I assume they have air-con etc? What is the insurance like on them compared to a Cerb?, bearing in mind the Cerb came in at £975 per year with A Manning UK (If I wait until I am 25 in November). A-Plan was £2100!! (they wouldn’t even quote me on a LHD Mustang) and I won’t pay more than £1000 per year for insurance.

The SI Elise is a real hoot, but, from experience:
If it lives outside it will leak, into the boot and cabin.
If you're out on wet roads, the water will find it's way into the footwell.
It's a real pain in car parks, the doors need to be fully open to get in and out with any finesse.
having said that it's fantastic, we used to see nearly 50 mpg on some runs, and other than a head gasket going, had no problems at all, and we used to do a lot of miles, I remember one day it was Ashford, kent to Bristol, Bristol to Bolton, Lancashire, Bristol to Kingswood Surrey and back to Ashford. All in a day and a comfortable one at that.
They're cheap now and if it weren't for 2 kids I'd have another.
You could try a MkI Exige is you want a real hard core experience.

I've heard the S1's are good, though I think I'll be going for an S2 Elise (better build quality, fewer leaks etc. as it will have to live outside) if I get a Lotus most likely the 111S If it lives outside it will leak, into the boot and cabin.

With regard to my 928 S4 that I just sold, I used to have the air con regassed which lasted a couple of years at a time. But most 928's would by now have a similar problem judging by speaking to other owners over the years.
Insurance wise, I am 34 and through AON insurance on a 928 with an insured value of £8K, fully comp with 3K limited mileage was about £320'ish. The quote I've had for a 13-14K Cerbera is £369 with AON insurance.
