Here's a strange one - under acceleration,. the engine just stops.

It happened yesterday during the weekly run, and has happened a couple of times before. No bangs, no spluttering, just suddenly loses power, revs drop to zero.

Coast to a stop, press black button, press red button and it starts and runs fine. The ignition seems to be staying on when it fails - but it feels like there's no ignition, and seems to need the reset to start again.

Any ideas please? Immobiliser maybe?

Thanks

Andy.

I used to have this. Never found out what it was! Thought it may have been somthing to do with the imobiliser system.

Check the oil!!!

If not could be fueling - get in touch with Joo at Track Car Solutions, either PM me for contact details or search 'members' for 'TrackCar'.

I had the same thing recently with my Tuscan.

Turned out to be the fuel inertia cut-off switch. A bit of a bumpy road would have it cutting out, only for it to re-start every time.

An exploratory push of the switch would be greeted with a slight click, and all would be well for a few hundred miles, before it happened again.

I just linked it out to test the theory, and no amount of bumps have caused a recurrence.

The new switch is on order...

mine was doing this when the throttle pot had died. Then, after replacement, it continued until I cleaned the lambda sensor (which I think must have got soaked in fuel when the pot went and sent the car stupidly rich).

Well thats rings a bell, because my car is misfiring at about 4000 revs at the moment - dodgy coil pack I think, and sometimes the backfires are very dramatic, so I guess the lambda sensor on that side could either be knackered or dirty.

How did you clean it?

Oh and where is the furl cutoff switch then?

Thanks for help guys

Andy.

lol, well, I was going to swap it for a new one, but with the angle of the sensor, and the 12" or so of clearance I managed to get, I couldn't get to the damn sensor (other side was easy to get to, but this side was angled away from the gap) so I pumped the compressor up to 8bar, removed one end of the cat and blasted air up the exhaust pipe.

It was a very crude way of cleaning it, but it worked a treat! biggrin

Yeah you need an extra joint about 4 inches above your wrist.

I bent a spanner in half to get to it before!

Cheers, will try it out!

I tried that, but I thought "Is that the right angle? Hmmmm... I think just one more tap..." and it broke, lol.

That was whern I gave up and dragged the compressor out :-)
