Took the cerb out for a few hours today, noticed after a while was a little harder to get in & out of gears, on my way home the car got stuck in second & i had to really force it out of gear. Pulled over & turned the car off, could change gears relatively easily whilst not running, started it up again & couldn't get it into gear at all.

The clutch feels heavy as normal...... any ideas anyone???

IIRC you have a tremec box?
the turret on the top , where the selector sits can get stiff and gummed up.

Remove the topwhere the lever goes in and grease it.

I have experiance of this box in another make of vehicle.

Does it look as if you're losing any clutch fluid from between the gearbox and bellhousing, or from your cutch master cylinder?

If any of the seals are on their way out, you would start to have trouble changing gear. You may just need to give the system a really good bleed.

Both of the last 2 posts seem like possible problems!

I had the car dropped to the garage so they can have a look monday, someone else has suggested selector problems, i'll chat to the garage monday first thing.

Would either of these reasons mean i can still change gears with engine off but not when running??

I'd suggest its not declutching properly.

You might have some leakage of fluid from the slave cylinder (pool under the car) or the master (fluid in the driver's footwell) or there might be a tiny bit of air in the system, so try bleeding the system.

When I had my new clutch fitted it did this after a few miles. When bled again the tiniest bit of air came out - enough to stop the clutch releasing fully. Do you know the clutch plates only move about 6mm?

Andy.

It sounds like you have some of the fingers broke of on the clutch plate.

It definitley sounds like fingers to me.Ive had the same problems.Depending on who you take it two,and if they figure in a slave cylinder as well. Then your looking at the best part of £1200-£1500.

Fingers thoughts also here am afraid, with seals/cylinder failure leading to fluid loss you would I think almost certainly notice a change in the pedal behaviour, certainly I have in the past with massive dead spot before it start to disengage the clutch... if the pedal feels normal then I think it's more likely the clutch mech itself. If it is the clutch then do that slave at the same time, it's not a lot more and you'd hate to have to pay same labour again in maybe a few months when it goes.

if you've got the time, and you can be arsed, a clutch change really isn't all that difficult on a verb.

Ive got the same symptoms starting today frown

Getting harder and harder to put into gear, especially into 1st rolling to a stop. New clutch time methinks? Well, at least this one lasted over 25k miles. The last one lasted 3k yikes

Ho hum.

Teach me to spout off to someone a few weeks ago that the car has cost me virtually nothing this year frown
