At times I hate Cerbie's
Discussion
Hi
It's not as bad as it sounds!
Went to fit replacament starter today.
All went well till I tried to undo the secound allen bolt (The top one) and it rounded out! After two hours I have run out of idea's, other than forcing a bolt into the hole and migging it in etc.
Any other ideas!
That's apart from a can of petrol and a match as I have already concidered that!!!!!!

O! well back to the 350i restoration!

If I didn't have access to a welder, I'd soak the hell out of it with WD40, whilst tapping area with a light hammer to loosen rust. Then thoroughly dry some hours later. Go to motor factors and buy some of that two part metal bonding paste. Get home, hammer a slightly oversized allen into rounded hole with some of that paste inside. Then cake some around the top too. Leave to cure, then give that a go.
If that don't work, then it would be mig time.

These will do the job:
Irwin bolt grips
They 'dig into' the head, getting tighter as you turn, so should work.
Unbelieveable things, I've tried dozens of ez-outs and similar over the years and they've been cr*p, but these Irwin things actually work.

Hi
Thanks for all the advice.
I forced a shocket on to the allen head, with some metal paste, let it cure and off it came, job done, now to finish replacing the starter motor. My 350i restoration will have to wait another day, as not having the cerbie on the road is getting to me!

. Seems like I should be talking to you boys then. Andy - you obviously organised a great event and Mark - you obviously enjoyed it - so I would welcome any advice!
Perhaps not via PH at this stage though

Lots of ideas at the moment, just doing some research. All I do know is, there must be a Cerbera event
. Location wise - well, again some ideas, but the more central the better really. It will give you a good excuse for a blast from Suffolk anyway!
Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

after she wouldn't start, praying she's just flooded!!
