It's official, Cerberas are the fastest!
Discussion
After a hard fought 2008 championship, the last round of the TVRCC Speed Championship was to be the decider.
It couldn't have been closer, 3 people in the running for the title in 3 very different cars.
Jes Firth - 4.2 Cerbera
Paul Edwards - T350c
Matt Oakley - Griffith 500
With 0.8 of a point separating the 3 drivers, it was always going to be close.
With a very wet practice, things were looking grim for the afternoon at Castle Combe.
Castle Combe is a fast 'power' circuit and is not somewhere that lends itself to a wet 'race' with high power RWD cars.
I can confirm that there was less than, bu**er all, traction in practice, my car was sideways on the straights with a steady throttle - hairy indeed!
Luckily the rain ebated and a dry line started to emerge.
Times were tight on the first timed run, as we run a handicapped championship, it was difficult to know if Jes or Paul was in the lead, Matt had chosen to get 'one in the bag' and was slighly a drift from the other two. But Jes, was a fag paper in front. This was going to be close!
Second run, and it was getting dark and the track was now getting damp! But could they improve on their times?
My memory is a little sketchy, as I was shaking like a leaf after my second run, I'd lowered my tyre pressures in the hope of more traction, with a damp surface and very tired Dunlop semi-slicks I found myself drifting sideways on almost every corner, great fun but not good for an improved time! But second run times were no quicker than first and the results were in.
JES FIRTH WAS CROWNED THE 2008 TVRCC SPEED CHAMPIONSHIP OUTRIGHT WINNER!

Congratulations Jes, after 6 starter motors and many 'incidents' it all paid off.
The official results and full write up are still to be published, keep an eye on the offical web site.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Cox, the championship organiser, for making the TVRCC Speed Championship the great series that it is.
Thanks also to everyone who turned up to cheer us on and it was good to eventually meet Dave Hinns and put a face to the name, and apologies again for the lack of credit for your pics, I've sorted it now.
If you fancy having a go at sprinting and hillclimbing drop Steve an email
Roll on 2009.

Thanks Tim - it was a hard fought championship and I am delighted to have won it in a cerb - I always knew they were the best car.
Thnaks to everyone who has responded to my posts over the year helping to resolve my various technical problems and keep the car running well - it is much appreciated and certainly contributed to my success.
I can feel a winter rebuild coming on already - the car will be even quicker next year!!

When Tim said wet...

Bur despite the cold and wet we kept the flags flying

I couldn't stay for the second run as everything was running very late, but we knew Jes was going for it from the HUGE plume of smoke as he locked up for Avon rise.
Well done everyone for entertaining us well yesterday, when sensible people would have stayed under shelter and well done Jes.

Congrats Jes! A bloody tough battle between the top three, all incredible drivers, all with totally different driving styles/cars! A real achievement.
Must admit, that looks like a helluvalot of roll too in one of the photos
huge bravery!
I wonder if this will help get Matt to listen to my suggestion to get another Cerbera, I see his Griff is forsale...

Not a chance, he's now the proud owner of a Tuscan Racer.
