Car feels a bit flat!
Discussion
I took the car out for an early morning blast this morning.Punching out on to the motorway.I notice that if i just hold back off the throttle the car feels a bit flat.I need to push the pedal a fair bit before the power picks up.If i bury my foot, then no problem. But its the in between bit, where i am just holding off that it feels a bit strange.Still managed a respectable 135mph.Any ideas?.Or maybe they are all like that.Never driven anyone elses at that speed. And before anyone asks.I dont need Cerbera s

Not sure if the cam grind changed anyway through 4.2 production but certainly the earlier ones like mine have a definite 'step' around 4K rpm where they come on cam and the power delivery kicks in quite dramatically. I see you've had yank V8's previously - well the AJP is certainly a disappointment at the bottom end compared with even a cooking small block simply because they haven't got anything like the torque so the feeling of 'pull' is considerably less. The AJP however develops it's peak power way up in the gods of rpm as far as yank v8's go though. Peak power on mine was around 6400rpm I think - basically your driving style is different. You need to keep it near the boil for emergency 'scramble' situations or certainly drop a cog whereas you may have been used to just booting it and the enormous torque just got on with it.
Mine does feel sharp/responsive though even on part throttle - just not with that killer pull.

the car runs fine. And no misfires or dodgy packs or pots.I know what they are like, because i have suffered a few.Pushing your foot down, does give you a proper response. Its just the part where you are trying to get there.1,st,2nd,3rd,and 4th it powers through.Sitting in 5th at say 80mph,and then trying to pull away, seems to take an age.(Seems a lot of pedal travel)Until anything happens, unless i just push it to the floor, then it seems to go.
Smash. having owned this for nearly four years,i have a bit of experiance with the AJP,i was never really impressed with the bottom end torque on them,as there just seems to be a lack of it.Compared with the big end RV8,or better still the LS powered units, then the the AJP lacks that brutal kick in the back you get with the RV8 or LS units. The AJP pays off higher up the rev range,as both the RV8 and the LS hit peak power around 5500-6000rpm,whereas the AJP will pull way beyond this. You just have to work these engines harder to get there.I wonder if my problem could be to do with air entering the car.More like.Too much, rather than not enough?.

Looking in the history of my 4.5 the previous owner reported same problem which was cured by replacing high resistance spark plug leads.
I had similar problem on my Audi A8 and finally changed the leads to cure it.
£33 a lead!! But only 6 of them on my 2.8 A8 !
Cerberas are expensive to run?
