Does anybody know how to get to the bnusiness end of the heater/air con control knobs?

Mine has started throwing a wobbly and doing odd stuff, like the rear screen demist comes on with the ignition, when I switch on the hot air, the air con switches itself on, it doesn't switch off with the heater knob though, oh no, you have to switch the heater back on before it goes off.... bloody cerbs!!

Oh, and now the green light door lock button thing is flashing rapidly, indicating "a fault". Nice!

I'm assuming there is a short somewhere and I want to pull it all out and sort it properly.

CHeers,
Rich.

There's a small ribon from the back of the switch panel that goes to a small pcb behind the dash then that goes to the fan/heater control box by the ECU. I think you can see the back of the switch panel and small pcb with the dash top off. Mine has done strange things before but then I realised i put the control ribon on back to front once hehe, you haven't reconected anything lately have you confused

You can reach up behind the dash and pop out the board with the fan knobs on it.

No, I haven't touched anything... honest!

It's actually behaving itself again this morning, although the "alarm" light is still flashing like mad, and it never used to do that. I think I'll try and check it out this weekend.

Cheers guys!

It's just held in with clips or something then?

I think so.

As far as I remember it can be removed from the car without using any tools at all.

But check before you go forcing anything ..... just in case they are not all the same.

Mine pops out when it feels like !! Think it should be held in with a couple of nuts. Heaters either on full blast or off cant get the variable speed blower to vary, though the aircon works fine.
Aren't they great ?

Yeah, I know.

I was being just a little bit sarcastic when I wrote that.

biggrin

It's true though.

They did seem to use whatever was available / leftover when they got stuck for something.

I suppose that's why we have the "Equivalent Parts" thread, eh?
