Ok, i feel i should add a little bit to this thread...
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
by way of an explanation to why i feel like i do:

Not that i could call this the final straw because i havent really had any problems with the car other than a few niggles that ive sorted myself, although the service was an expected kick in the teeth wink

On friday i stopped over at work until one in the morning, i work shifts so this is not unusual, i come out at one in the morning and the car is on its own in the top carpark, its frosty and the windows are iced over, no problem because one of the little niggles i fixed was the heated rear screen.....which i turn on while i start the car and sit for 10 minutes warming it up, as the window is clearing theres an almighty bang and the back window shatters into a million pieces with a hole in the middle like a bricks come through it! Being tired i drive home from work cold and depressed and ring autoglass who have yet to get back to me because theyre struggling to find a replacement! So thats why i thought about selling, the autoglass guy said its uncommon but not unheard of so its not just because its a TVR!

Anyway...does anybody know where i can get one from if they cant get one? is it a salvage job?

And sorry to go on but also........im not selling the car biggrin

Bloody hell. I've never seen that, and I tend to clear frosty windscreens with hot water, from the tap (not kettle), which is way more extreme than using the heated rear screen. Although I know I'm tempting fate, I've been doing it for 20 years and never seen a screen go.

I have some redundancy pay left and I believe I will be offered a new job this coming week... I can't tell you how tempted I am to make you an offer, even though it would be a stupid move until I've achieved some job security.

DO NOT USE THE FIRM YOU'RE THINKING OF.

I have a hole in my car, scratches everywhere, wind noise which is unbearable & they're disputing it (want chipsaway to play with the car!!!) - even though I have it in writing from the installer that he cocked up.

These are the two contacts I should have spoken to -

If it helps Loz, National windscreens in Halesowen have had a bit of practice on my cars.

They've done a front screen replacement & a remove/refit on the rear screen to fix a leak.

I'm only down the road from them, if you want to inspect mine, before dropping yours off.

Ive had that happen on another car freezing cold heater on full blast driving along and the windscreen went like a bomb had gone off!! very scarry was told it was just the outside temp so cold and a very hot direct heat inside can cause it especially if any weekness anywere. Nearly wet myself when it went though

I think I've convinced myself that until we move house I won't buy another Cerb. I need a double garage to be able to do a full ground-up rebuild. I could hardly get in and out of the car in my single garage.

And of course I can't move house until I get a job and have spent x amount of months/years in that job before anyone would give me a mortgage in the current times.

However, my wife and I have decided that when we do move, it'll be somewhere with a vacant "side" to the house, somewhere where we can park additional vehicles. Basically I do not plan on selling any more of my weekenders. I will buy/build a Caterham next and later I'll buy/rebuild a Cerb... and an Elan +2. I just hope Cerbs still exist by the time I can afford to do this.
